    • 375,289. Steam generators. BLUNDON, J. C., 715, Rand Avenue, Oakland ; California, U.S.A. March 13, 1931, No. 7772. [Class 123 (ii).] A device for removing condensed water from steam pipes and returning it to the boiler consists of an injector 27 for removing the water from the steam pipes, a vessel 6 for receiving the water, a pump 8 for circulating the water and valve means 19, 22 actuated by the pressure of the circulating water from the pump and controlled by a float 29 in the vessel acting to return the water to the boiler feed on a predetermined height of water in the vessel 6 being reached, the valve means acting to direct the water coming from the pump 8 to the boiler and simultaneously to cut off the water from the injector 27, and vice versa. In operation, a rotary pump 8 having propellers 11 driven by a motor 13 feeds water from a tank 6 to an ejector 27 through pipes 16, 21, a valve 22 and a pipe 23, the ejector drawing condensed water from the steam pipes through a pipe 28 to the tank 6. When the water reaches a predetermined level 58, a float 29 operates, through a rod 31 and handle 33, the plug 41, Fig. 2, of a rotary valve 19, admitting water through pipe 18 and passage 47 to one head 37 of a cylinder 36 and actuating a piston 34 therein, the water being displaced from the other head 38 and passing off through a passage 48 and a pipe 49. The piston, by means of a rod 51 and arm 52, operates rotary valve 22, shutting off pipe 21 from the ejector pipe 23 to stop the supply of condensed water to the tank 6 and opening it to the boiler water feed conduit 24 to which water is then supplied by the pump 8. When the water in tank 6 has fallen to the lower level 7 the float 29 causes the rotary valve 22 to be restored to its previous position, thus causing displacement of piston 34 and operation of valve 22 to connect the ejector pipe 23 to pipe 21. Operation of the ejector 27 is thereupon resumed and condensed water is again drawn into the tank 6, and so on as before. Means provided to cut off the pipe 28 and prevent entry of steam, when all the water has been withdrawn from the steam pipes, includes a seating 53 in pipe 28 with which coacts a valve 64 connected by a rod 66 to a piston 68 operating in a cylinder 67 connected through pipes 71, 49, 28 to the ejector 27. An air vent 70 is provided in the cylinder 67. While water is being drawn in through pipe 28 suction in pipe 71 keeps the piston 68 in the raised position and the valve 64 open. When steam comes through pipe 28 it expands into pipes 49, 71, breaking the vacuum, and the piston falls, shutting the valve.
