    • An image processing technique in which illumination effects are reduced by subtraction of spatially weighted masks which are formed substantially simultaneously on an analog smoothing grid. Haloing are reduced by using a mask whose spatial weighting is non-linear at the boundary of image segments whose intensities differ by more than would be predicted by the Rule of Twenty which predicts that the ratio of naturally found reflectances seldom exceeds a factor of twenty. A color image is processed by forming differently scaled masks, each of which is related to a spectral component of the original image. The masks are subtracted from the image to form a composite image. The saturation level in each smoothing grid is selected to minimize adverse effects of illumination in that spectral component by causing segmentation of image areas whose intensity differences exceed natural reflectance ratios. The transfer functions of each grid may also separately adjusted to enhance the composite image.

    • A paint spray booth for painting an article and separating the spent paint overspray form the air and water used in the booth to collect the spent paint material is disclosed. The booth includes a water containing pan which has a deep portion and a shallow drain portion. The water used to separate the spent paint from the air and to clean the air discharged from the booth is collected on the drain portion and sent to the deep portion of the pan in a manner to cause a flow in the drain portion and deep portion of the pan to prevent accumulation of spent paint in undesired, inaccessible locations and to encourage movement of spent paint to desired, accessible locations in the pan and/or for removal or further treatment as by settling, skimming and/or separating, or the like, to provide the present invention with low maintenance similar to or less than other such booths, such as dry filter paint spray booths. The booth has a water manifold in its eliminator-washer section with a plurality of openings therein covered by a space "v" shaped cap which is easily cleaned and kept clean. The booth, preferably, has a spent paint intake pipe with a plurality of slots therein extending across and submerged below the surface of the tank to draw off the spent paint containing water, some of which is recirculated to the tank, some of which is recirculated in the washer section of the booth, and some of which is sent to be concentrated and remove the spent paint material.

    • A device for determining the volume of spraying liquid applied to unit area of ground by spraying equipment. The device includes pulse generators for generating first and second electrical signals respectively representing the rate of supply of liquid and the ground speed of the equipment. A function generating unit receives the two signals and, responding to these signals, produces an output signal representing the product of the ratio between the signals and a predetermined factor. The output signal from the comparator is applied to a meter which provides a visual indication of the output signal, this representing the volume of liquid applied to unit area of the ground. An automatic speed control unit can be coupled to an output from the function generating unit or to the means for generating the second electrical signal. This unit is actuated by an operator when the visual indicator indicates that a predetermined supply of liquid to unit area has been achieved. The unit then maintains the ground speed at a constant value.
