    • A method and system for resilient mobile communications in a network when network elements are removed, upgraded or fail are provided. A mobile device communicates with an endpoint through foreign and home agents communicatively connected to the network. An active home agent stores communication information for the mobile node and multicasts the communication information to non-active home agents associated with the active home agent. When an active home agent is removed, upgraded or fails, the mobile device is able to maintain mobile communications with the endpoint through one or more non-active home agent. A non-active home agent having a high priority is transitioned to active status to maintain communication service between the mobile node and endpoint.

    • A method, medium, and communication system are provided for preventing fragmentation when tunneling between a first and second communication network. The communication system includes nodes and routers that transmit packets over the first and second communication networks. The nodes generate requests to identify the maximum transmission sizes of the first and second communication networks. In turn, the nodes format packets based on the minimum of the maximum transmission sizes of the first and second communication networks. The routers transmit the packets formatted by the nodes over the first and second communication networks without fragmenting the packets.

    • Network address translation allows hosts within a private network (“internal hosts”) to access the Internet through a single or a limited number of public IP addresses. When an internal host accesses the Internet, NAT translates the internal host's private IP address into a temporary public IP address for a given session. A method and media are provided for enabling a host external to the private network (“external host”) to initiate communication with an internal host. The internal host requests that a global address be mapped to its private address. The internal host receives the global address and sends it to a server where it is available to an external host. The mapping between the private address and the global address is maintained in a NAT system so that an inbound connection request from an external host can be forwarded to the internal host.
