Extincteurs; automatic appliances.-An extincteur 6, Fig. 1, is pivotally suspended in the bifurcated end of a swinging hanger 1, and is normally held in a slightly tilted position by a fusible connexion 18, on the melting of which the extincteur 6 swings about trunnions 5 into an inverted position, thereby causing the release of the acid from the acid bottle, and simultaneously the hanger 1 is released and oscillates about its pivot 2 ; the contents of the extincteur are thus scattered over the floor and ceiling on being forced through spraying-nozzles 35. The hanger 1 is released by means of lug 17 on one of the trunnions 5; the lug engages one end of a lever 11 pivoted at 8, as the extincteur 6 swings .round, thus releasing a hook 12 from a toothed quadrant 13. A wire loop or bail 7 then rotates gearing 10, 15, 13 until the bail 7 slips out of the space between two teeth of the spur wheel 10. When the extincteur 6 is inverted, a weight 27, Fig. 2, slides down a rod 26 and operates a rod 31, in order partly to withdraw the stopper 24 from the acid bottle 23. In the modification shown in Fig. 5, the extincteur 6 is supported by a fusible link g ; when released, it swings round and operates a lever d, thus disengaging a catch 10 in the form of a bell-crank lever from a slotted support 7 , whereby the hanger 1 is free to oscillate.
