    • The invention relates to a method for supporting an encoding of an audio signal, wherein a first coder mode and a second coder mode are available for encoding a respective section of an audio signal. The second coder mode enables a coding of a respective section based on a first coding model, which requires for an encoding of a respective section only information from the section itself, and based on a second coding model, which requires for an encoding of a respective section in addition an overlap signal with information from a preceding section. After a switch from the first coder mode to the second coder mode, always the first coding model is used for encoding a first section of the audio signal. This section can then be employed to generate an artificial overlap signal for a subsequent section, which is possibly to be encoded with the second coding model.

    • The invention relates to a method for supporting an encoding of an audio signal, wherein at least one section of the audio signal is to be encoded with a coding model that allows the use of different coding frame lengths. In order to enable a simple selection of the respectively best suited coding frame length, it is proposed that at least one control parameter is determined based on signal characteristics of the audio signal. The control parameter is then used for limiting the options of possible coding frame lengths for the at least one section. The invention relates equally to a module 10,11 in which this method is implemented, to a device 1 and a system comprising such a module 10,11, and to a software program product including a software code for realizing the proposed method.

    • A method for supporting an encoding of an audio signal is shown, wherein at least a first and a second coder mode are available for encoding a section of the audio signal. The first coder mode enables a coding based on two different coding models. A selection of a coding model is enabled by a selection rule which is based on signal characteristics which have been determined for a certain analysis window. In order to avoid a misclassification of a section after a switch to the first coder mode, it is proposed that the selection rule is activated only when sufficient sections for the analysis window have been received. The invention relates equally to a module 2,3 in which this method is implemented, to a device 1 and a system comprising such a module 2,3, and to a software program product including a software code for realizing the proposed method.

    • The invention relates to a method of selecting a respective coding model for encoding consecutive sections of an audio signal, wherein at least one coding model optimized for a first type of audio content and at least one coding model optimized for a second type of audio content are available for selection. In general, the coding model is selected for each section based on signal characteristics indicating the type of audio content in the respective section. For some remaining sections, such a selection is not viable, though. For these sections, the selection carried out for respectively neighboring sections is evaluated statistically. The coding model for the remaining sections is then selected based on these statistical evaluations.

    • A method of encoding speech in a communications system includes the steps of receiving a speech signal including voice signals and background signals, and detecting voice activity and providing an indicator when no voice activity is detected. The speech signal is encoded to generate a plurality of parameters representing the signal. When the indicator is not present, a first parametric representation of the speech signal is output, including the plurality of parameters. When the indicator is present, at least one of the plurality of parameters is modified and a second parametric representation of the speech signal, including the modified parameter is output.
