摘要： Improved shielded medical devices which minimize accidental needlesticks of the skin by an exposed contaminated needle are provided. The medical devices include a hollow inner tube body and a telescoping outer shield. The outer surface of the inner tube has front and rear circumferential grooves, with a shoulder located forward of the front groove and a ramp located rearward of the front groove and decreasing in diameter as it extends away from the front groove. The shoulder has a larger diameter than the ramp diameter adjacent the front groove and permits the shield to be slided over the inner tube without locking into the inner tube during assembly. The outer shield has two inwardly extending circumferential protrusions in proximate location to each other, and at least one outwardly extending gripping flange. A first of the protrusions is located at the rear end of the shield and yieldingly engages the rear groove during use of the medical device, thereby permitting normal use of an exposed needle. After needle contamination, the shield is gripped by the thumb and forefinger of the practitioner and slid forward along the inner tube until the forwrd inwardly extending protrusion of the shield slides up the ramp and lockingly engages the front groove. The shield is then locked relative to the inner tube such that the needle is shielded. With properly arranged gripping flanges, the shielding action may be accomplished with one hand.

摘要： A single piece device enables medical clinicians to clean and disinfect both an injection port (needleless I.V. connector) and a vascular access catheter hub. The device has a body with a first end having a blind hole with a wall adapted to be engageable with the threads on the housing of an IV connector and a bottom surface adapted to engage the top surface of the IV connector. The device body has a second end defining a male-luer slip extending out of a recess. The male-luer slip is adapted to extend into a standard vascular access catheter hub such that it engages the inner walls of the catheter hub, and the recess is adapted to receive and be engageable with the outside thread element of the catheter hub.

摘要： Non-aggregating resorbable calcium phosphosilicate nanoparticles (CPNPs) are bioconjugated to targeting molecules that are specific for particular cells. The CPNPs are stable particles at normal physiological pH. Chemotherapy and imaging agents may be integrally formed with the CPNPs so that they are compartmentalized within the CPNPs. In this manner, the agents are protected from interaction with the environment at normal physiological pH. However, once the CPNPs have been taken up, at intracellular pH, the CPNPs dissolve releasing the agent. Thus, chemotherapeutic or imaging agents are delivered to specific cells and permit the treatment and/or imaging of those cells. Use of the bioconjugated CPNPs both limits the amount of systemic exposure to the agent and delivers a higher concentration of the agent to the cell. The methods and principals of bioconjugating CPNPs are taught by examples of bioconjugation of targeting molecules for breast cancer, pancreatic cancer, and leukemia.

摘要： The present invention is directed to a belt pack for use by law enforcement officials or civilians for handgun concealment and torso protection. The belt pack includes an upper compartment and a lower compartment. The compartments are foldably connected at one end and attached by VELCRO or a similar securing method at another end. Inserts composed of KEVLAR or other bullet-resistant material are contained within interior sections of both compartments. The upper compartment further includes a metal trauma plate to protect the chest of the wearer. When opened, the belt pack reveals a handgun holster attached to the lower compartment and areas along the upper compartment for identification, such as police badges. A neck strap coupled to upper compartment allows the belt pack to serve as a bullet-resistant vest for the wearer.
