摘要： Disclosed is an improved process for using iron-oxidizing bacteria to reactivate the raffinate ferrous sulfate solution in chemical leach operations. The process uses a biological raffinate converter, or BRC, as a key feature of the process. The process provides enhanced efficiency and commercial utility over the best known biological process for converting raffinate ferrous sulfate. The resulting ferric sulfate then can be recycled back into the bioleaching process of, for example, copper from chalcocite.

The enhancement of bioleach solutions with a nutrient supplement selective for a particular sulfide oxidizing strain of bacteria significantly increases copper solubilization of chalcopyrite ore. Likewise, copper solubilization is enhanced by enriching bioleach solutions with a non-selective growth mediums.

摘要： A method for recovering silver from a refractory manganese dioxide-silver ore. The ore is contacted with an effective amount of a culture of direct manganese-reducing Bacillus polymyxa bacteria. The ore-bacteria mixture is maintained at an approximately neutral pH until a sufficient amount of the manganese dioxide in the ore is reduced from Mn(IV) to Mn(II). The silver present in the ore is then recovered by conventional methods such as cyanide leaching.

摘要： A flushing system provides a pair of check valves that are used in combination with each other. One of the check valve is attached to a hose located between the circulating pump and the thermostat housing of the engine. The other check valve is attached to a hose through which fresh water is provided. Both check valves prevent flow of water through them unless they are associated together in locking attachment. The check valve attached to the circulating pump hose of the engine directs a stream of water from the hose toward the circulating pump so that the water can then flow through the circulating pump, the engine block, the heads, the intake manifold, and the exhaust system of the engine to remove seawater residue from the internal passages and surfaces of the engine. It is not required that the engine be operated during the flushing operation.

摘要： Disclosed is an efficient biological process for recovering heavy metals from refractory ore, and a process for removing heavy metal contaminants from the soil. The process utilizes a potato extract growth medium (PEGM) to greatly increase the efficiency for recovering heavy metals from ores and for removing heavy metal contaminants from soil. Microbes which can be used in the process are manganese reducing Bacillus sp., or mutants thereof which retain the metal recovering properties of the parent microbe. Further, recombinant microbes, as disclosed herein, can be used in the same manner as the native microbe.

摘要： A hem folding attachment for forming an S-shaped fold in the edge of a flexible sheet prior to the stitching of the folded edge by a sewing machine. The attachment includes first and second movable guides cooperably associated for forming the fold on the workpiece. The first movable guide has integrally formed thereon a hem fold control finger portion which extends parallel to the direction of feed and is interposed within the fold for effecting the movement of the fold to the sewing machine. The hem fold control finger portion is positioned within a cutout located on the top side of the throat plate whereas to maintain the presser foot in its normal operating position during the sewing operation.
