摘要： An interstitial brachytherapy apparatus and methods for treating proliferative tissue disorders with radiation and a surface delivered treatment agent. The brachytherapy device includes an insertion member having proximal and distal portions and at least one lumen extending therethrough. An expandable surface member is mated to the distal portion of the insertion member and includes a treatment agent releasably mated thereon. When the brachytherapy device is positioned within a tissue cavity and the expandable surface member is expanded, at least a portion of the treatment agent is delivered to tissue surrounding the tissue cavity.

The system includes a tissue fixation device including a catheter body member having a proximal end, a distal end, an inner lumen, and an expandable surface element disposed proximate to the distal end of the body member, the expandable surface element sized and configured to reproducibly position tissue surrounding a resected tissue cavity in a predetermined geometry upon expansion. After expansion of the expandable surface element within a resected tissue cavity, an external radiation device positioned outside the resected cavity delivers a dose of radiation to the tissue surrounding the expandable surface element.

摘要： An implantable device has a body that is substantially rigid and has an imageable shape. The body is further bioabsorbable and may contain permanent metallic elements to aid in its imaging. When the device is implanted in a resected cavity in soft tissue, it can cause the cavity to conform substantially to a known imageable shape. The implantable device is further imageable due to its attenuation properties being different from those of soft tissue such that the boundaries of the tissue corresponding to the predetermined shape can be determined.

摘要： An implantable tissue marker device is provided to be placed in a soft tissue site through a surgical incision. The device can include a bioabsorbable body in the form of a spiral and defining a spheroid shape for the device, the spiral having a longitudinal axis, and turns of the spiral being spaced apart from each other in a direction along the longitudinal axis. A plurality of markers can be disposed on the body, the markers being visualizable by a radiographic imaging device. The turns of the spiral are sufficiently spaced apart to form gaps that allow soft tissue to infiltrate between the turns and to allow flexibility in the device along the longitudinal axis in the manner of a spring.

摘要： An instrument for use in brachytherapy comprises a concentric arrangement of inner and outer distensible, spherical chambers disposed near the proximal end of a catheter body where one of the chambers is made to contain a radioactive material with the other chamber containing a radiation absorptive material, the apparatus functioning to provide a more uniform absorbed dose profile in tissue surrounding a cavity created by the removal of a tumor. An alternative embodiment includes non-spherical inner and outer chambers whose respective walls are spaced equidistant over the entire surfaces thereof.

The applicator comprises an elongate tube body having a proximal and a distal end and defining an open internal area. A fixation element located on an outer portion of the tube allows the applicator to be fixed in position in relation to a target region while delivering a dose of therapeutic radiation. The fixation element can fix the applicator to tissue and/or a stabilization element implanted within a patient. A source of radiation positioned within the elongate body, before, during, or after implantation of the applicator, provides the therapeutic radiation.
