[Class 142 (ii)] In a wide loom for weaving tufted pile fabrics, having a number of spools 7 mounted in brackets on a tube frame 5, each bracket comprises lower and upper parts 13, 14 hinged at 15 and connected to a bolt 17 co-operating with slotted lugs 16, 19, a spring 21 being placed on the bolt beneath a nut 20 so that the friction on the flanges of the spools may be adjusted. The flanges 26, 29 fit one into the other and run on flanged rollers 22, mounted in the bracket. The rollers are retained in recesses in the bracket and each consists of two parts connected together by a rivet 25, or as shown in Fig. 3, each roller turns on a pin 38 and embraces the reduced rims 35 of the flanges. Each flange is fixed to the tube 7 of the spool by conical member 32 which is drawn into a split hollow boss 30 by a screw 31, 33 and an angular head of one screw fits into a recess in the head of the other. A collar 34 holds the screw 33 against rotation in the flange 26.

    • 456,669. Axminster carpet looms &c. ROBINSON, J. E., 19, Birmingham Road, Kidderminster. May 25, 1935, No. 15255. [Class 142 (ii)] The tuft yarn tube supporting bar 9 is of hollow metal with ends reinforced by wooden or metal filling members 21, secured thereto by a rivet 22 or solder and receiving the screws 13, 14, 15, whereby the end plates 7 are attached to the bar. Instead of a solid plug 21, a metal pressing of thimble form may be used. When two or more tube frames are disposed end to end, a projection 23 is formed on each end of the bar to support the endmost tubes, and it may be produced by removing metal from the upper, lower and rear walls of the bar. This may be of solid drawn steel or be formed on a mandrel from sheet metal as a lock seam tube of D-section with an inwardly flanged edge hooked over an outwardly flanged edge, the contacting flanges being then rolled through 90‹, or both edges may be flanged outwardly, brought face to face, doubled back upon themselves and rolled down. Tin plate yarn tubes are soldered to the flat surface 17 beneath the lock seam shoulder 16, or attached to a carrier strip secured to such surface.

[Class 142 (ii)] A carrier bar 6 for the tubes has the usual end brackets 9 secured thereto furnished with means 16, 18 for attaching the carriage to the endless chain, the spool being supported by spring plates 22 which pass through spaced openings 17, 21 in the brackets 9 and are not secured thereto, but may be retained in position by inserting a bent end 25 between the bar 6 and a reinforcing lug 10 in the bracket. Alternatively, a bent end 25 of each spring plate 22 may be pushed between the wooden bar 6 and a reinforcing metal ferrule 8 or may be screwed or riveted to the latter. The bar 6 may be recessed at its ends to receive the plates. Each plate may have a hole 30 to accommodate the projecting end of the screw 19 used for securing the bracket 9 to the bar 6. The plate has a hole, eyelet, or bush 33 for the spool trunnion and a longitudinal guiding groove 36 therefor. Its central portion may have side lugs for preventing lateral displacement of the spring strip 18. Each spring plate may be additionally tensioned by being acted upon by a coil spring accommodated in a longitudinal recess in the bar. In a modification the corner bar comprises a metal cube, the bracket 9 having a lug 10 screwed to the tube, whilst a lug 27 screwed to the tube is screwed to the bracket, the bent end 25 of the plate 22 being inserted between the lug 27 and the bar 6. In addition it may be secured directly to the inner surface of the hollow bar by screws, rivets, soldering, &c.

    • 441,938. Pivots. ROBINSON, J. E., 19, Birmingham Road, Kidderminster, Worcestershire. Aug. 3, 1934, No. 22606. [Class 65 (ii)] [See also Group IX] Tuft-yarn grippers comprising a pair of plates 10, 11, disposed substantially in the same plane and having overlapping parts 13, 14, are pivotally connected by a fastening member which is associated with one plate and is movable axially to apply pressure to the other plate and thereby take up slackness at the pivot due to wear. The fastening member may comprise a screw 17, Fig. 3, and nut 19 having tapered flanges for engagement with similarly formed portions of the parts 13, 14, or the screw 17 may be dispensed with and a member such as 19 provided with a screw to engage a threaded opening in the other plate. Alternatively, one plate may be formed with a flanged portion 23, Fig. 4, adapted to be passed through the other plate 13 and expanded outwardly into engagement with the walls 15 thereof, the slackness being taken up by advancing a conical screw 24 or a solid or hollow pin.
