    • 821,225. Tractor power-lift mechanisms. WRIGHT, J. C. June 11, 1956 [June 10, 1955], No. 16779/55. Class 79(1) An automatic depth control apparatus for an implement 32, Fig. 1, mounted on a tractor so as to be raised and lowered by a hydraulic lifting mechanism 21, 22 and 27 to 30, has a valve means 1 mounted on the implement and operated by the movements of a ground wheel 2 of the implement, the valve means controlling the flow of hydraulic fluid to the lifting mechanism so as to control the working depth of the implement. As shown, the ground wheel 2 is carried by a bell-crank lever 3 pivoted at 4, to the plough 32, the latter being connected to a tractor and liftable and lowerable by a hydraulic lift 21, 22, bell-crank 28, 31 pivoted on the the tractor and a lifting link 30. The bellcrank 3 is connected by a swivel nut 7 to an adjusting screw 8, passing through a socket 9 mounted on a swivel 10 on a part 11 of the plough 32, the upper end of the screw 8 having an operating handle 12. The screw 8 is connected, between two collars 15, with a swivel connection 13 having a slidable connection with a control lever 14 of a disc type main valve 1 mounted on the plough. A pump 18 is connected by a flexible hose 16 to the inlet of the valve 1 the outlet of which is connected by another hose 17 with a secondary manually operable valve 19 communicating with a sump. The pump 18 is also connected by a smaller hose 20 with the lift cylinder 21. The valve 1 has a disc with an eccentric opening which is registerable with an outlet opening connected to the hose 17. When the tractor is operating the valve 19 is open and if the wheel 2 is lifted the opening in the disc moves out of registry with the outlet of the valve 1 and thus pressure builds up in the cylinder 21 to cause the plough to lift. When the wheel 2 frees, the disc opening moves into registration with the valve outlet and" relieves the cylinder, so that the plough can fall. Normal lifting and lowering of the plough is effected by operating the valve 19 and the depth of the plough is adjusted by the handle 12.
