Class 39(3) [Also in Group XXXVI] In an electric furnace of the fused salt type, an electrode B for passing current through' the salt extends into the bath from below the upper surface thereof and is arranged to project so that only the limited surface area of the inner end portion of the electrode contacts the salt; and means are provided for advancing the electrode as this end portion wastes away. The electrode is of small diameter and is in aligned sections in end to end contact. The electrode is advanced by a screw F rotating in a plate E and bearing on a metal block G pressing on the outer end of the electrode through an insulating block H. Current passes from a cable J 3 to metallic conductors J extending longitudinally thereof and releasably compressed on the electrode B by a resilient tubular coil I wound on the conductors J by adjustment of the ends of the coil angularly by links I 2 and screws I 4 on posts I 3 (see Group XXXVI). Cooling fluid is passed through the coil by flexible pipes K. The posts I 3 are mounted on a channel beam C, which also has opposed apertures C 1 through any one of which is passed horizontally a pin C 2 with a bushing C 3 holding in adjusted position an angle member E, through the vertical flange E 1 of which passes the electrode adjusting screw F.

    • The present invention involves a hand-held cutter device that is adapted to be held by a human hand, over a human finger, or between the human fingers. The cutter device includes a generally cylindrical inner sleeve slideably engaged with a generally cylindrical outer sleeve, where each sleeve includes an open end and a closed end. The inner sleeve has an extended position and a retracted position. A blade for cutting various materials is attached to the closed of the inner sleeve. A biasing element is confined between the sleeves and urges the inner sleeve into the retracted position. The closed end of the outer sleeve may include a plurality of flat guide surfaces, at least one straight guide groove, and or at least one guide rib. At least two of the plurality of flat guide surfaces may intersect at about a 90 degree angle and the at least one straight guide groove may be located within any of the plurality of flat guide surfaces.
