    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a gasoline fraction having an octane number improved than the octane number of a starting fraction and a gasoline fraction having a high cetane number at least equal to 35 from the gasoline fraction having 4-15 carbon atoms.
      SOLUTION: The method comprises a step for separating a fraction β containing the majority of straight chain olefins present in the fed stock oil from a fraction γ containing the majority of branched olefins present in the fed stock oil, and having an octane number higher than that of the fed stock oil by a membrane separation, a step for carrying out an oligomerization treatment of the straight chain olefins contained in the flowing-out component (fraction β) caused at the membrane separation step, and a step for obtaining the light oil having the high cetane number by separating the flowing out product caused at the oligomerization step to at least two fractions by distillation, returning a part of the light fraction to the oligomerization step, mixing a part thereof with the fraction γ, and hydrogenating the heavy fraction η.
