Air-tubes.-Relates to air-tubes of the kind described in Specification 106,746, and in which the tube is lined with rubber strips having loose overlapping edges cut into flaps. According to the present invention, the strips in the unvulcanized state are secured to a similar backing which may be vulcanized to, or itself form, the air-tube. In the form shown in Fig. 5, the strips a on the backing b are arranged within the tube, the ends e, e of which are telescoped and the backing lapped to ensure a continuous puncture-closing layer. An endless band may be formed from lengths of the built-up backing laid over a mandrel, and joined along the inner edges to form a tube. Fig. 3 shows how the pressure on the mandrel results in the flaps being flattened to give a smooth inner surface to the tube. To prevent adhesion, the strips may be coated with chalk; d represents the usual fabric wrapping applied during moulding. In use, the strips may be coated with glycerine, soft-soap, or other non-drying material, and a layer or layers of a self-sealing composition may be embodied in the tube.
