    • A trommel for (10) classifying and sorting objects. The trommel is an open cylinder including a drive plate (12) and a feed plate (16). A series of supporting rods (28) extend between the drive plate and the feed plate. Disposed therebetween is a rod support ring (32) dividing the trommel into a classifying zone (44) and a discharge zone (34). A plurality of vibrating rods (42), floating in the vicinity of the rod support ring (32) and anchored to the feed plate, oscillate and flex as the trommel rotates causing preselected sized objects to pass through the vibrating and support bars while the remaining objects are passed into the discharge zone with reduced clogging.

    • A process for recovering metals such as Ni, Co, Mn, Cu, Zn, among others, through precipitation as sulphides, enabling recovery of magnesium in the form of hydroxide, carbonate and oxide and providing recovery of sulphate as gypsum and ammonium sulphate. Liquid phase, after full treatment, comprises recovered water with a quality proper for total reuse in Industrial process. This process of liquid and solid effluent treatment is provided with flexibility to process several types of effluents presenting wide variations in their chemical composition. The main steps of this process are (1) equalization of liquid effluent, (2) precipitation of metals as sulphides, (3) oxidation of metallic sulphides and crystallization as metallic sulphates, (4) precipitation of magnesium as hydroxide and calcination thereof into magnesium oxide (5) recovery of ammonia, (6) preconcentration of the remaining saline solution, (7) evaporation/crystallization of ammonium sulphate, (8) storage of recovered water, (9) partial or total precipitation of sulphate contained m the effluent with quicklime, (10) segregated storage of gypsum and gypsum-magnesium mixture, (11) softening of the remaining solution and (12) storage of softening water

    • This invention relates to a filtering device for diesel engines based on metal foams. In order to achieve high filtration efficiency with low pressure drop using deep bed filtration metal foams, a radial flow concept is used based on a "porosity gradient". The foams can also be coated with catalytically active material to enhance soot oxidation (regeneration), as well as reduction of other exhaust gas pollutants (CO, hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides). This may be accomplished by using non-uniform amounts of catalytic materials within the filter depending on the targeted application. An additional secondary filter segment (13) may be placed within the metal support of the main filter segment (8). The metallic diaphragms (11, 12, 16) at the entrance and exit of the external shell (1 ) are designed in such a way as to allow the flow to be divided between the main (8) and the secondary (13) filter segments according to the respective flow resistances. The filter can be designed in such a way as to ensure very high filtration efficiency when clean and ensure a non-blocking behavior in case the soot loading in the filter reaches extremely high values due to various reasons such as prolonged low temperature operation.
