    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lock of high safety by driving a plurality of gears with a key having a coding bit, turning a plurality of driven gears having a lock blot recess, and releasing the lock with each gear recess kept aligned. SOLUTION: A rotor 43 is formed out of a plurality of gears and each gear is formed to be independently capable of being driven. Furthermore, a plurality of gears 59 having a slot 61 are combined to form a driven element 5, and mounted so as to keep a variable center distance with the rotor 43. On the other band, a coding bit is formed on the end 29 of a key 2. Then, when this key 2 is inserted in a key groove 10 and turned, each gear of the rotor 43 is rotated, together with each gear of the driven element 58. As a result, the slot 61 of each gear 59 is properly positioned and a rock bolt recess 62 is formed, thereby causing a rock bolt 23 to retreat and release a lock. For positioning the slot 61, a dial lock system is applied, and the rotor 43 and the driven element 58 are disengaged from each other wherever necessary for adjustment. According to this construction, a key operated lock of high safety can be provided.

    • A door lock comprises a driver hub (12, 108) connected to a door lever, a driven hub (14, 106) a latch lever (20) movable by the driven hub for retracting the lock's bolt to open the lock, and a catch mechanism for selectively connecting the driver hub (12, 108) to the driven hub (14, 106). The catch mechanism (32, 110) includes an idle position in which the driver hub (12, 108) moves without moving the driven hub (14, 106) and an engaged position in which the drive hub (12, 108) moves the driven hub (14, 106) and thus the lever (20) and the bolt (22). A state selection (16) mechanism is provided to displace the catch mechanism (32, 110) between its idle and engaged positions. An actuating mechanism (18, 134), e.g. a solenoid, selectively positions the state selection mechanism (16) such that the latter causes the catch mechanism (32, 110), when driven by the driver hub (12, 108), to adopt one of its idle and engaged positions such that the catch mechanism respectively drives, or not, the driven hub (14, 106). The actuating mechanism (18, 34) thus allows the state selection mechanism (16) to mechanically cause the catch mechanism (32, 110) to selectively connect or disconnect the driver hub (12, 108) from the driven hub (14, 106) and thus to respectively unlock or maintain locked the door lock. The actuating mechanism typically allows the state selection mechanism to position the catch mechanism (32, 110) in its engaged position, i.e. in its door unlocking position, when activatived by a current which results from a valid entry having been recorded in an electronic access control system, or the like.

    • A key cutting machine for cutting keys by code has a vise jaw for securely holding a key with a groove of the key aligned with respect to the vise jaw and with at least one of a tip of the key and a shoulder of the key positioned at a predetermined position with respect to the vise jaw, a key cutter, a position detector for detecting a blank edge of the key held by the vise jaw, a movement system for moving the key cutter and the vise jaw relative to one another to cut the key; and a controller for controlling the movement system to carry out a predetermined sequence of movements according to code information. The code information is referenced with respect to a blank edge of a side of the key to be cut, and the predetermined sequence of movements being referenced to the detected blank edge position. A key is cut with the key held in the vise jaw with a groove of the key aligned with respect to the vise jaw without needing to align the key with respect to a keyrest. For a double sided key having standard code information, the key is placed against a keyrest and the position detector is used to determined the width of the key. The second side of the key is then cut with the key held in the vise jaw with a groove of the key aligned with respect to the vise jaw without needing to align a remaining blank side with respect to a guide. For a double sided key having code information including a width parameter of the key blank, the key is placed against a keyrest and the position detector is used to determined the actual width of the key blank. The predetermined sequence of movements is then modified to compensate for differences in key blank width.
