    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve both of miniaturizing a keyboard by the change of key arrangement while maintaining key intervals (19 mm) of a standard-sized keyboard and using a mastered skill about conventional QWERTY arrangement.SOLUTION: Whether 26 keys of alphabetic characters A to Z out of keys constituting a keyboard are arranged in accordance with standard key arrangement or not dominantly has a large influence on input of sentences. These 26 keys are maintained in conventional key arrangement but the other keys having no influence on an input speed are discarded as much as possible, and characters to be inputted by the other keys are assigned to alphabetic keys and are allowed to be inputted by a special shift operation. As a result, functions equivalent to those of a conventional keyboard are implemented by about half the number of keys of the conventional keyboard. Because of the reduction of the number of keys, a small-sized keyboard is implemented without narrowing key intervals.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that an input speed lowers and erroneous input increases since a key interval has to be narrow when a keyboard is miniaturized, and the problem that an erroneous operation easily occurs during key input when a contact type pointing device is integrated.SOLUTION: All keys other than the minimum requirement for character input are taken off from a keyboard to substantially reduce the number of keys, and a key array for compatibly miniaturizing the keyboard and succeeding proficiency for a conventional key array is realized. A new shift key to be required due to reduction of the number of keys is also used as a character key to prevent decline of operability. Also, by reducing the number of keys, arrangement of a pointing device at a position for not causing the erroneous operation, which has been conventionally impossible, is realized. Further, by integrally controlling the keyboard and the pointing device, some keys are substituted by the operation of the pointing device, and a subordinate switch of the pointing device is substituted by the key.
