    • A garnish includes a garnish body which covers a folded air bag and a locking portion which is inserted to be locked in a mounting hole in a mounting base on a vehicle body. The locking portion holds the garnish body which is pressed by the air bag when the air bag is inflated to move so as to form a projecting space for the air bag. The locking portion includes a locking main body portion which is inserted to be locked in the mounting hole and a connecting piece portion. The connecting piece portion includes a locking base portion on which the locking main body portion is provided, connecting portions which are connected to a rear surface of the garnish body, and deformable portions lying between the locking base portion and the connecting portions and is molded integrally with the garnish body. The deformable portions deform to extend a distance between the locking base portion and the connecting portion when the garnish body moves towards a vehicle interior side.

    • A car interior part, to which an air bag device can be assembled, includes an interior part main body portion and a cover portion for an air bag. In the periphery of the back surface of the cover portion, there is formed an angular shaped mounting wall which can be connected to the air bag device. The mold releasing direction of the interior part main body portion is set as a direction that crosses the developing direction of an air bag. At least one of front and rear mounting walls formed in the mounting wall is or are formed in the same direction as the mold releasing direction of the interior part main body portion. In the portion of the rear mounting wall that is situated upwardly of the mounting portion of the rear mounting wall, there is formed an integral hinge portion. The mounting portion of the rear mounting wall is fixed to the air bag device while it is folded at the integral hinge portion thereof.

    • A method of forming a synthetic resin formed article having a double-layer structure of a base portion and a covering portion which covers an outer periphery of the base portion and which has an inwardly curved portion for covering an end portion of the base portion. The method includes the steps of forming a sheet-like material into a predetermined shape by the vacuum forming to obtain a preliminary covering portion; trimming an end portion of the preliminary covering portion obtained in the previous step to obtain the covering portion of the formed article; setting the covering portion of the formed article on one of a pair of dies which constitute a press-type forming die with the curved portion of the covering portion being supported by a slide core located at a forefront position; setting a molten resin which is forming material of the base portion into a gap between the one die and the other die in a state in which the covering portion of the formed article is being set on the one die; clamping the press-type forming die in a state wherein the slide core is in contact with the other die at the forefront position immediately after or in synchronism with the molten resin setting step and causing the molten resin to set to form it; and opening the forming die and then removing the formed article obtained in the clamping step from the press-type forming die.

    • A split-opening portion is formed by two transverse breakable portions that extend substantially along the transverse direction of a vehicle, two front-rear breakable portions that extend substantially along the front-rear direction of the vehicle and are connected to the transverse breakable portions, and a middle breakable portion that is located between the two transverse breakable portions and extends substantially along the transverse direction of the vehicle. In a front passenger seat airbag apparatus, the split-opening portion is broken by pressing force of an inflated airbag so that door portions are separated from the door adjacent portion, and the door support portions are pivoted together with the door portions about hinge portions serving as fulcrums. The breaking strengths of parts of the split-opening portion are varied such that is broken in the order of the transverse breakable portions, the front-rear breakable portions, and the middle breakable portion.
