    • A document processing apparatus such as an electronic typewriter includes: a document memory to store character data and an edit command which are input; a dictionary to store the spellings of correct words; and a checking circuit to check whether the spelling of the word which is expressed by the input character data train is correct by referring to the dictionary. When the spelling of the word is determined to be incorrect as the result of the check by the checking circuit, the process based on the edit command is not performed. Since an opportunity to correct the incorrectly word is given to the operator before the function of the input key is executed, the operator can easily correct it and a misprint due to the erroneous operation of the operator can be prevented.

    • A document processing apparatus comprises: a memory to verify both of the spelling of a word including a syllable hyphen and the spelling of a word including no syllable hyphen; a reading device to read out a word across two lines in the document processing format; a spelling verifier to access the memory and to check the spelling of the word; and a control unit for allowing the spelling verifier to perform the verifying operation at least two or more times on the basis of the result read out from the reading device, for discriminating whether the hyphen in the word across two lines is the permanent hyphen to form a synthesized word or a syllable hyphen, and for controlling the spelling verifier to perform the spelling verification. The memory is a basic dictionary memory in which the correct spelling and correct syllable hyphen position of each word are stored. With this apparatus, the spelling verification can be performed on the basis of the hyphen inserting position in a sentence and of the kind of hyphen. When a document is printed, the word wrap process and the hyphenation process can be automatically efficiently performed.

    • An image printer includes a controller for controlling image printer operations, an image storing device for storing image data, an image printer including a print head for printing image data stored in the image storing device and a print position setter for setting a print position of the image printing means. The controller provides current position data to the print position setter, and the left print position is set in accordance with a current position of the print head of the image printer. A right position is set by adding a horizontal printing width of the stored image to the left print position. Alternatively, the controller provides current position data to the print position setter, and the right print position of the stored image is set to a current position of the print head of the image printer and a left position is set by subtracting a horizontal printing width of the stored image from the right print position. In either case, the print head is moved to the set positions and the operator is provided with the opportunity to alter the positions if the positions are deemed unacceptable.
