    • A reinforced hose (10) according to an embodiment of the present invention includes a first reinforcing layer (14) having a reinforcement material with a first tensile strength. A second reinforcing layer (18) overlays the first reinforcing layer (14) and includes a reinforcement material with a second tensile strength. The second tensile strength is substantially greater than the first tensile strength. In another embodiment of the present invention, a reinforced hose (10) includes a first reinforcing layer (14) including a reinforcement material having a first level of fatigue resistance and a second reinforcing layer (18) overlaying the first reinforcing layer (14) and including a reinforcement material having a second level of fatigue resistance. The first level of fatigue resistance is substantially greater than the second level of fatigue resistance.

    • A hose coupling assembly for attachment to a hose having an inner surface and an outer surface. The hose coupling assembly includes a first member (e.g., a nipple) and second member (e.g., a socket). The nipple includes a tapered outer surface, an outwardly facing groove extending inwardly from the tapered outer surface, and a set of external threads disposed rearward of the tapered outer surface. An annular seal is positioned within the groove. The socket includes a nipple receiving portion and a hose receiving portion secured to the outer surface of the hose, where the nipple receiving portion has a set of internal threads configured to mesh with and threadingly engage the external threads on the nipple. Upon insertion of the nipple into the nipple receiving portion of the socket and the subsequent threading of the external threads of the nipple into the internal threads in the socket, the annular seal on the nipple sealingly engages the inner surface of the hose.

    • A low cost control regulates air flow between the freezer and food compartments of a side-by-side refrigerator and cooperates with a freezer thermostat to form a system which regulates operation of the refrigerator compressor in an energy efficient manner. A spiral coil spring of thermostat metal material has its inner end secured to a damper shaft to bias damper movement between positions opening and closing a control housing orifice in response to changes in temperature. A cylinder fitted around and secured to the outer end of the spring coil rotates to adjust the spring bias for selectively changing the temperature setting of the control. A control arm has a split sleeve at one end releasably clamped to the cylinder at a selected angle for initially calibrating the control and system, the opposite arm end being slidable on the control housing to rotate the arm for selectively varying the spring bias. The spring is responsive to selected changes in food compartment temperature to open the orifice and let cool freezer air into the food compartment when required and then to close the orifice for minimizing the frequency and duration of compressor operations initiated by the freezer thermostat.
