    • The invention provides a printing ink composition comprising a pigment or pigment preparation, a thermoplastic resin, water, a water-soluble solvent, and, as inhibitor for preventing the foaming of a foamable material containing a blowing agent, an azole of the formula ##STR1## wherein A is a benzene or naphthalene radical, X is a nitrogen atom or the ##STR2## group, wherein R is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, R.sub.1 is an alkyl or alkenyl group, each of 1 to 20 carbon atoms, a hydroxyalkyl group of 2 to 20 carbon atoms, an alkoxyalkyl or cyanoalkyl group, each of 3 to 20 carbon atoms, a cycloalkyl group of 5 to 12 carbon atoms, or a phenalkyl group of 7 to 9 carbon atoms, R.sub.2 has the same meaning as R.sub.1 and can in addition be hydrogen, or R.sub.1 and R.sub.2, together with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached, form a heterocyclic ring.The inhibitors employed in the printing ink compositions of this invention have the advantage that they do not require a pH regulator, i.e. they can also be used for printing inks having a pH lower than 8, and have the further advantage that they can be more easily incorporated in printing ink compositions, have a better compatibility with aqueous acrylic resins, a better stability in PVC latices, have less influence on the viscosity and have a lower toxicity than aminotriazoles.

    • The invention relates to crimson-colored pigment mixtures comprising 1,4-diketo-2,5-dihydro-3,6-diarylpyrrolo[3,4c]pyrrole and quinacridone pigments in separate crystalline phases, having a high tinctorial strength combined with other excellent application properties. The pigments according to the invention can be used in printing inks, especially in printing inks for polychromatic printed products. A substantial constituent of the pigment mixtures according to the invention is 1,4-diketo-2,5-dihydro-3,6-di(4′-chlorophenyl)pyrrolo[3,4c]pyrrole or 2,9-dichloroquinacridone, which are subjected to kneading with a crystalline inorganic salt and a neutral organic liquid. The invention also relates to a process for the preparation of such pigment compositions, the use thereof in the production of printing inks, and such printing inks themselves.

    • In order to prevent or at least render difficult the copying of colored printed security papers, for example banknotes, the printing inks used for printing are so formulated that copies made using customary color copiers produce a markedly different color impression and can therefore easily be identified as being forgeries. This is achieved by using for the formulation of the printing inks dyes (pigments) that are as different as possible from the dyes (toners) customarily used in conventional color copiers. The choice of the dyes for the formulation of the printing inks is especially such that there is the greatest possible degree of metamerism between the printing ink in question and the match of the relevant master color using the dyes of the color copier. Preferably non-amorphous or anisotropic black dyes and effect dyes, especially fluorescent effect dyes, are co-used for the formulation of the printing inks.
