    • Disclosed relates to a method and an apparatus for converting gradation data in LCD that provides a high response of LCD by converting gradation data applied to LCD appropriately. According to the present invention, a data converting part 32 converts gradation data, newly input and stored in a recording buffer 31, based on previous gradation data stored in a frame memory 33 and, the converted gradation data, i.e., the gradation data to be displayed newly on the LCD, is stored in the frame memory 33. Especially, the data converting part 32 executes gradation conversion based on the gradation levels that input gradation data and previous gradation data have. Accordingly, the prevent invention can raise the response of the LCD all the more by executing most optimum gradation conversion in accordance with characteristics of the LCD and, further, removes after-images shown on the LCD efficiently.

According to the present invertion, present gradation data input from outside and previous gradation data previously displayed on an LCD pannel are compared with each other to generate new gradation data to be displayed on the LCD pannel. Here, previous gradation data values previously displayed on the LCD pannel are dicided based on voltage values charged in corresponding cell capacitors mounted on the LCD pannel. Accordingly, it is possible to execute real-time data conversion, not applying separate frame memory in a data line driving device for supplying gradation voltages with the LCD pannel.

The apparatus includes a storage buffer (31) for storing input data for driving the LCD, and a frame memory (32) for storing gradation data for driving the LCD pannel. A data conversion unit (33) converts gradation data stored in the storage buffer (140) based on the gradation data stored in the frame memory, i.e., previous gradation data that was used for driving the LCD. The data conversion unit (33) subtracts the gradation data stored in the frame memory (32) from the input data stored in the storage buffer (31), multiplies the subtracted result by a predetermined factor to generate a correction value, and adds the correction value to the input data to generate new gradation data.
