    • A hula hoop (10) includes a hoop body inside which a control circuit is arranged. The control circuit has a processor (18) having the functions of turns counting and timing so that the number of rotation turns of the hula hoop and the time period of playing the hula hoop may be calculated and stored in a memory (19). Output devices, including visual display (15) and audio sound generator (16), are provided to display the counting and timing result from the processor. Switches or keys (11-14) are also provided for the hula hoop player to select the desired mode of operation and to key in the player's body information, based upon which the processor may calculate the calories consumed in playing the hula hoop. Music playing device is also incorporated in the control circuit to play one or more pre-selected rhythms so that the hula hoop player may enjoy music during his or her playing the hula hoop. The speed of the music so played be corresponding to the rotational speed of the hula hoop.

    • A voice-controlled timing and calculating device includes a microphone to receive a user's vocal signal, a voice amplifier amplifying the vocal signal, a comparison circuit comparing the vocal signal with information stored in a memory to retrieve an associated instruction, a processor performing the instruction of serving as a timer or a calculator to generate a result, and a voice synthesizer which converts the result from the processor into a synthetic voice which is then broadcast by a speaker so that the device may be operated with vocal input and vocal output. Further, the device may be provided with visual display to show the result of the processor. Also, a manually actuateable switch may be provided to allow a user to alternatively switch the processor between the timer and the calculator.

    • A voice-controlled electrical adapter includes a plug adapted to engage for example a wall outlet to supply electrical power to the adapter and a socket adapted to receive the plug of an electrical appliance and a voice control circuit electrically connected between the plug and the socket to form a normally-open electrical loop therebetween. The voice control circuit includes a microprocessor based processing means having a memory to store therein a reference instruction, a microphone to receive and apply a user's instruction to the microprocessor which identifies the user's instruction by comparing the user's instruction with the reference instruction and operate in response thereto to control a switching circuit to selectively close the electrical loop to so as to allow the electrical power to be supplied from external power source to the electrical appliance. Visual and vocal output devices may be provided and controlled by the microprocessor to indicate the operation and status of the adapter. The microprocessor may be programmed to perform a learning mode which allows the user to input his or her voice as the reference instruction stored in the memory. If desired, more than one set of socket may be provided and arranged in parallel with each other for connection with more than one electrical appliance.
