    • A farm implement for handling liquid manure to be used as fertilizer has special loading apparatus mounted on the holding tank of the implement that aggressively agitates the pool of manure concurrently with loading thereof so that all levels of the pool, including the hard crust normally forming thereon, are thoroughly admixed with one another into a proper slurry for handling. A pickup housing may be lowered into the pool from a raised, transport position when the implement is ready to load, and the loader-agitator impeller adjacent the intake of the housing rapidly draws the manure into the housing and sweeps it upwardly into an auger leading to the tank. The tank inlet is automatically closed by an interior valve cover of the housing when the latter is swung into its transport position whereby to prevent leakage of the manure from the tank after loading. Jamming of the loading apparatus by stones which are frequently interspersed throughout the manure being loaded is avoided by virtue of flexible tips on the impeller that yield when jamming is imminent, and by the special controlled manner in which the stones are swirled upwardly by the housing for gravitation into the upwardly facing inlet of the tank.

    • A stack mover has a stack-receiving assembly provided with a horizontal tube and a plurality of forks on the tube. A U-shaped carrier for the assembly has a shaft at its bight passing through the tube and a pair of arms supported by caster wheels. A power cylinder between the assembly and the carrier raises the shaft and the tube to lift the stack as the arms swing about the wheel axles. Connections between the tube and a tractor limit the extent of rotation of the tube relative to the shaft. When used with the three-point hitch of a tractor the entire mover may be raised for full support by the tractor.

    • Mechanism for reciprocating the press of a stack-forming implement utilizes hydraulic energy so arranged as to decrease the time consumed during each pressing operation. To this end, the forces imparted by fluid pressure piston and cylinder assemblies are, in effect, reversed by unique arm and link arrangements such that the pressing stroke takes place as the piston stems are extended and the press is moved rapidly along its return stroke during retraction of the stems. Synchronization is effected by intermeshing gear teeth between each of two pairs of power transmitting arms or beams and by an operable interconnection through use of a torque member, the linkages being so connected as to apply equalized forces at each of four corners of the press.

    • In the harvesting of agricultural crops, the crop is lifted off the ground continuously by a pickup unit as the vehicular harvesting machine is advanced across the field along the crop windrow. The machine has a crop-handling assembly which includes an elevator for receiving the crop from the pickup unit and continuously raising the crop to a level higher than the bed of the crop-receiving body of the machine. The crop-handling assembly also includes a conveyor which continuously receives the crop from the upper end of the elevator and moves the crop in a horizontal direction rearwardly for dumping into the open top of the body. The conveyor is extensible fore and aft of the body so that as the crop gravitates from the rear end of the conveyor it is spread evenly front to rear of the body. The entire elevatorconveyor assembly and the pickup unit thereon are also shiftable laterally with respect to the wheeled vehicle to spread the crop evenly from side to side of the body. The crop is fed between the side walls of the body and between upward extensions of such walls, and those extensions are shifted against the crop from time to time to compress it against the bed of the body and form a stack. Each extension also has a ram for compressing the sides of the stack in the body. The body is tiltable rearwardly and has a tailgate which may be unlocked and swung upwardly to permit the stack to be pushed rewardly out of the body off the tilted bed through use of a rearwardly moving, upright ''''false front.
