[Class 52 (v)] An adjustable shelf for gas meters comprises a mounting member and a supporting member which is adjustable in horizontal and vertical senses to accommodate meters of different sizes. The mounting member comprises two substantially triangular shaped brackets 10 having flanges 11 and pivot pins 14. Two similarly shaped brackets 15 are mounted on the pivot pins 14 with their flanged edges 16 horizontal. Pivotally attached to the brackets 15 is a platform 20 comprising two similar crossmembers 23, 28 and two side members 21. The member 28 may be adjusted on the side members when screws 31 on a spacing member 19 are slackened. Pins 27 are inserted in holes 26 in the mounting brackets and the supporting member is held in its higher position by the engagement of these pins by a flange 25 on the rear cross member 23. In a second construction the mounting brackets 35 are spaced by a rod 36. The platform comprises three members 40, 41, 43. The members 40, 41 are hingedly connected and the member 40 which is of a width equal to the required range of vertical adjustment is hinged to the spacing strip 36. The front member 43 has flanges 44 within which the ends of the second strip 41 are slidable to give a horizontal adjustment. A rod 45 attached to the front member 43 is received in slots 46 in the bracket. The shape of the slots 46 and the hinge connection between the members 40, 41 allow the platform to be adjusted in a vertical direction.

[Classes 54 and 135] A valve for a dry gas-meter comprising a seating a, Fig. 1, and a cap b rotated by the meter mechanism, has at least that part of the cap or seating which coacts with the seating or cap, respectively, made from a material having an inherent lubricating property, e.g. graphite. The seating comprises concentric rings c, d, Fig. 4, interconnected by radial ribs e forming a plurality of ports. The cap, of which Fig. 3 is an inverted plan, has an inlet port i, and a chamber g by which the central port in the seating is placed sequentially in communication with the other ports. Either the seating or the cap is made wholly of graphite, or the cap may be made with a graphite facing. The part, i.e. the seating of the cap, not made wholly or in part of graphite may be made wholly of a metal having a low coefficient of friction, e.g. an antimony-tin alloy. The edges of the seating with which the cap co-operates are made as narrow as practicable, e.g. /32 to 1/16 inch.

Bronzing and the, like.-A machine for applying colour powder to lithographic transfers &c. comprises a rotary drum a, Fig. 1, receiving the sheets from a table q and delivering them to a table t, a powder chamber or trough b provided with a perforated screen c and adapted to be reciprocated longitudinally, and a distributing brush, roller, or the like d within the trough. A series of brushing-pads m and the trough b are caused to reciprocate longitudinally by means of one or more cams i acting on slidable spring-retained bars which carry the trough and the brushes respectively. The movement given to the trough can be regulated by means of an adjusting screw fitted to the slidable bar carrying the trough. In the construction shown in Fig. 4, the trough b is stationary and the brush d is intermittently rotated by means of a diametrical arm x secured to the drum a and acting by friction on an adjust-. able disc w which is secured to the brush. The rotary movement of the brush d is controlled by adjusting the disc w in relation to the segmental surface of the arm x. Rotary burnishing-pads similarly operated may be employed. Specification 19023/01, [Class 101, Printing other than letterpress &c.], is referred to.

A reflector fitting of inverted channel section for carrying one or more tubular lamps comprises a horizontal top member 10 having upwardly directed side flanges 15, 16 and a pair of separate side members 11, 12 which are detachably secured to the outsides of the flanges 15, 16 by interlocking joints engaged by sliding the side members longitudinally relative to the flanges 15, 16. The upper longitudinal edges of the flanges 15, 16 are bent outwardly and then turned underneath to form U-section sockets, the mouths of which face towards the central plane of the fitting, and the upper edges of the side members 11, 12 are bent outwardly to form flanges 26 adapted to slide in the U-section sockets. The upper portions 25 of the side members are arranged to lie flat against the outsides of the flanges 15, 16. The side members are secured by screws 31. The ends of the side members are turned through 180 degrees to form U-section end sockets 29. In order to fasten two fittings in end to end arrangement C-section joint members are slid into the continuous end sockets of the two fittings. The ends of a series of reflectors connected end to end are closed by trapezium-shaped plates secured by clips.

[Class 87 (ii)] In collapsable, segmental formers for tyre building having a displaceable key part 11 and a main part having two or more collapsable segments 12, 13, 14, the main part is swung out of the rotational plane of the former about a pivot 21 which is offset from the median plane 24 of the former. The former may be flat or semi-flat and designed for the 'flat' method of tyre building ; its width may be 75 per cent or more of the bead diameter. The main part is adapted to swing clear of the axle 19 and the pivot 21 is disposed vertically. The pivot 12 is positioned adjacent the edge of the middle segment 12 whereto the segments 13, 14 are pivoted. The pivot 21 is provided in a bracket 17 mounted on the axle 19 and carrying guides 27, 28 for slides 25, 26 whereon the key part 11 is rockably mounted. The part 11 is displaced by moving the slides by gearing or by a lever system 29 which is locked in the expanded position by spring-pressed plungers 35 releasable by finger pieces 37. The part 11 is manually rocked to clear the segments 13, 14 during the swinging movement, but is otherwise maintained fixed by a spring-pressed plunger 38. The main part is retained in operative position by a detachable stay 40.

[Class 75 (iv)] A lamp having a tubular casing A with a slot through which light passes to illuminate a number plate B or the like, is provided with an inner transparent tube D which is silvered or otherwise rendered reflecting, except along the portion d adjacent to the slot in the outer tube. Additional slots a may, however, be provided in the outer casing, and red windows may be provided or the inner tube at the corresponding places d may be coloured red instead of being silvered, so that red light may be projected rearwardly. A rubber or other resilient sleeve D , or rubber washers, may be provided between the two tubes. The lamp may have a light source C at each end or, as shown in Fig. 4, a concave. reflector at one end. Other light sources may be provided at intermediate points. The outer tube may be formed in one with the number plate. The latter may have one lamp at the top and one at the bottom. The electric lamp holders C are held in position by spring clips b .
