    • 345,398. Knitted fabrics. McADAMS, H., 4816, N. Mascher Street, Philadelphia, and STARR, J. W., 119, States Avenue, Atlantic City, New Jersey, both in U.S.A. Jan. 20, 1930, No. 1970. [Class 74 (ii).] Pile yarns 60, 80 are laid in at each course to form long projecting uncut loops. The loops of the yarn 60 are drawn to the front of the fabric and this yarn is knitted in, to minimize unravelling, at every fourth, fifth or sixth needle. The loops of the yarn 80 are drawn to the back, and since this yarn is less securely locked in with the base fabric it is knitted in at, preferably every third needle. Weft yarns may also be laid in to reduce stretch. Circular machines for producing the abovedescribed fabric are provided with fixed bearded needles 32 and with rotary sinker wheels F in non- radial slots in which sinkers 119 slide. The non- radial disposition of the sinkers is of advantage in sinking long pile loops. Retraction of these loops upon withdrawal of the sinkers is prevented by a felt pad 130 attached to the push-down cam 110 and held tightly against the needles. A retaining spring also bears against and supports the needles.
