[Class 20 (iv).] A floor construction of the cavity type comprises a plurality of pre-cast concrete T-shaped beams arranged alternately in upright and inverted positions so that the upright beams A constitute main beams for supporting the inverted beams B, the lower ends of the vertical leg portions of the upright beams being formed with outwardly projecting portions or ledges C affording a substantially horizontal bearing surface for the flanges of the inverted beams B. The flanges of the beams B may be cut away so as to form projections D adapted to rest upon the ledges C. The flanges of the main beams A are, preferably, recessed at their ends, as shown at E, in order to receive the upper ends of the vertical legs of the beams B. The main beams A are arranged side by side either with their flanges abutting or with a small gap therebetween for the reception of a nailing fillet G, as shown in Fig. 2. The main beams A are reinforced by three longitudinal rods M braced together at intervals by stirrups N, Fig. 2, which are each disposed in a transverse strengthening web P. The ends of the stirrups N serve to reinforce the ledges C. The secondary beams B are provided with three longitudinal rods R disposed in the base of the beam and connected by transverse strips S. A packing of lead or bituminous material may be provided in the joints between the units. The flanges, legs or strengthening webs of the units may be apertured to enable pipes or conduits to be passed therethrough.
