摘要： Self supporting non-lubricated retractable seal double block and bleed plug valve wherein an improved plug configuration provides direct bearing surface support (50) for the plug along at least a portion of the radial surface of the plug. The remaining radial surface of the plug may be optionally relieved (44) to avoid scuffing the swept seating area of the interior valve body surface. By utilizing the novel plug configuration for direct plug bearing support, the present invention obviates the need for a lower trunnion and does away with the need for high load-bearing bushings. In all other respects, the operation of a plug valve, utilizing the plug of the present invention remains substantially the same as it would be for a prior art plug valve. In fact, it is possible to substitute a novel plug configuration of the present invention for a prior art plug configuration for retrofitting existing valves of the type herein disclosed.

摘要： A method to test a plug valve seal by embedding a test coupon into the face of the slip. Even the heat energy is averaged by placing the test coupon at the midsection of the slip. During the bond adhesive application all applicable surfaces have the same adhesive applied during the same time frame in the same environment (except under test coupon tab which shall be prevented from adhering mechanically or chemically). The elastomer prepared for the seal groove is identical and is prepared in the same batch as that for the test coupon and all installed with the same tackifying agent by the same individual. The seal cross-section is the same as the test section of the seal test coupon. The post cure is next completed equally on seal and test coupon. After cool down occurs, the test coupon test tab (which was prevented from adhering mechanically or chemically earlier) is released and placed into a pull tab fixture and a varying known load is applied. The elongation is monitored and a stress/strain curve can be generated, verifying material properties. Further pulled to failure, the seal groove adhesion is verified. The removed test tab can then be compression set tested and a variety of other tests can be performed. Material and performance certifications can be generated for each slip seal.

摘要： In the stem set configuration for a double block and bleed plug valve, the improvement provides an operator (40) which can be significantly shorter and more compact than conventional operators for such valves. The invention makes use of a novel nesting of the threading section whereby a conventional female thread is replaced by a nested male thread surrounded by the translation section. The translation section (44), in turn, houses the indication (41) section inboard of the nested male threads thereby compacting three functions into one location. This design lends itself nicely to investment casting technology obviating conventional machine shop practices. The invention also combines by use of a long plug stem pin (56), the plug connection and L slot (58) functions into one location. The input function still remains separate, however, combining ultimately all functions in only three discrete locations and what appears at this time to be the ultimate compacted or nested arrangement.

摘要： A plug assembly for plug valves is made of two distinct metals, one for the plug and another for the stem or trunnion. In a preferred embodiment, the plug is made of ductile iron and the stem or trunnion is made of high grade stainless steel. The two metals are molecularly bonded at their respective surfaces when molten iron is cast into a plug mold containing the steel stem. A mechanical bond is also provided in the form of a iron pin through an aperture in the stainless steel stem.
