    • The invention relates to a porous polymer tube membrane which is pressure stable and can be sterilised and prevents contamination of the fluid to be filtered, and to an inexpensive method of manufacturing the tube membrane in question. The tube membrane is made from a flat blank of a porous polymer membrane (1) and a blank of a porous flat structure (2) made from thermoplastic fibres of differing melting points as sheath and core material, the porous flat structure being located on at least one side of the membrane. The sheath material is in contact with the membrane (1) and has a lower melting point than the harder core material and membrane polymer. Once a tube has been formed, a leak-proof join is created by applying heat and pressure between the membrane (1) and the fibres contiguous thereto in an overlap (5). The claimed tube membrane can be incorporated in tubular modules without additional membrane-support tubes for filtering fluids in such industries as food and drinks, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, biotechnology and effluent treatment, in particular for filtering particle-containing liquids.
