Additions, changes and deletions to data are managed by adding new data to the file and changing appropriate pointers in the data file to reflect the new data. Various application programming interfaces are also provided so that the store process can operate transparently to higher level applications. Various plug-ins are also provided so that the store process can utilize different types, configurations and numbers of storage devices.
