    • An improved mechanical face seal is provided which includes a pair of relatively rotatable seal rings having opposing seal faces. At least one of the seal faces (72) includes a reverse trapezoidal face pattern (75) having a sine wave depth profile wherein individual face features are circumferentially spaced over the seal face (72). The reverse trapezoidal face pattern (75) serves to generate a hydrodynamic lift which provides a stable separation of the seal faces that permits formation of a fluid film between the seal faces. The individual trapezoidal grooves (76) have a sinusoidal or similarly shaped depth profile wherein the trapezoid shape is arranged with the narrower edge (78) communicating with the high pressure side of the seal, and the wider edge (79) forms a circumferential dam region (81) towards the low pressure side of the seal. Alternatively, the reverse trapezoidal face pattern may also be provided as a primary face pattern on a dry gas seal in combination with a secondary face pattern wherein the faces operate with a controlled gap under normal pressure conditions as well as when the pressure direction across the seal face is reversed.

An author 11 is responsible for creating flashcard decks 20 while a group lead 13 is responsible for managing access to the decks to a select group of users 17. Group members 17 use the flashcard decks 20 to learn the content material. An authoring application is used by the authors 11 to create the flashcard decks 20 through the assembly of one or more of rich text, image, audio, and/or video elements. A group management application is used by the group lead 13 for the purpose of creating user groups and managing their access to selected decks as well as various modes of play. A flashcard player 14 is available for web, personal computer, smart phone, and/or tablet use by the group members/users 17.

    • An evaluation of an external course may be based on course-to-requirement mappings that have been previously established for the target institution. As a result of the evaluation, the external course may be mapped to a particular program requirement for a particular student, which allows the external course to fulfill the particular program requirement at the institution for the particular student. The course evaluation may be automatic or may be performed by a human evaluator. Course-to-requirement mappings may be globally-established, and applicable to all students and applicants of the target institution, or may be applicant-specific, and only applicable to the student for which the mapping was established. Information about both globally-established and applicant-specific course-to-requirement mappings that have been previously established for the institution may be used to evaluate an external course for a particular student.
