    • A flexible arch-shaped corrugated structure includes a plastic structure (1) that can be light weight and easy to handle, while at the same time having suitable strength for carrying loads. By suitably engineering the corrugations (40, 50), the need for structural ribs can be eliminated and thinner sidewalls can be used. The structure can include a series of vertically-oriented arched corrugations having surfaces that convexly arch or curve upwardly as well as laterally. Having both upward and lateral arched or curved features on the corrugations can provide increased strength to the corrugations and the structure. In a particular embodiment, the plastic structure is a leaching chamber. The structure can include access or inspection port structures (60) disposed at the ends of the structure. In one embodiment, the ports are dimensioned to mate with the opposing port of a like structure. In particular, the mated structures can articulate or rotate about the mated ports.

    • An in-line bell pipe is provided, formed by joining at least two corrugated sections of pipe having male (28) and female portions (20) to connect the corrugated sections. Each corrugated section has a plurality of first corrugations (22), each having a crest (25) and a valley (28) with the distance between the crest (25) and valley (25) of the first corrugations (22) being a first distance. The male portion (18) of each corrugated section has at least one second (32) and one third (42) corrugation, each second and third corrugation respectively having a distance between the crest and valley of each being a second and third distance respectively. At least one third corrugation crest (45) has a recessed area (55) which accomodates a sealing element (60) retained between the recessed area (55) and the female portion (20). The second and third distances each are less than the first distance.

    • A control system (310) for an athletic field (312) coordinates drainage (gravity or vacuum-enhanced) and irrigation by monitoring water level with respect to a subsurface membrane (352), wherein a flow network (314) resides on the membrane (352) and is covered by a fill layer (354), which in turn supports the field surface (356) thereabove. The flow network (314) includes couplings (326) located at intersections (380a) of some of the pipe rows (322b) and conduit rows (324b), and preferably the couplings (326) at intersections (380a) are equipped with reinforcement plates (326a) for additional structural rigidity. The water permeability of the conduit rows (324) allows the flow network (314) to be used for draining, irrigating or heating the field (312). To heat the field (312), the controller (310): closes off the gravity drainage subsystem (310a); closes off the vacuum-enhanced subsystem (310b); isolates some of the pipe rows (322b) from a main drain line (316) by closing isolation valves (325), while leaving pipe rows (322a) connected thereto; and actuating a heating subsystem (310d) by actuating a heat exchanger (301) and a recirculation pump (302), in a loop. This causes heated water to flow into the network (314) and to percolate into the fill layer (354) at first regions of the field (312), while at second regions of the field (312) cooler water drains from the fill layer (354) back into the flow network (314), eventually to the drain line (316) ant to the heat exchanger (301) and pump (302), in a continuous loop. This manner of heating the fill layer (354) and the surface (356) thereabove minimizes energy costs and eliminates installation and maintenance costs that would otherwise be necessitated by separate heating and draining systems.
