    • A cleaner oil change procedure can be achieved by using an adaptor assembly that comprises: a housing unit (3) that defines a cavity volume (33); a filter mount (25) connected to the housing unit (3), and adapted to mount a spin-on oil filter (39); an inner piston (7) slidably engaged with the filter mount and adapted to fit within the cavity volume, wherein the inner piston is moveable between a first position within the cavity volume and a second position substantially outside of the cavity volume, an actuator spring (15) located between the inner piston and the housing unit, wherein the actuator spring exerts a force on the inner piston capable of moving the inner piston from the first position to the second position; a drain valve (17) slidably connected to the inner piston, a drain channel (35) in the housing unit; and a valve spring (17) adapted to force the drain valve to seal against the drain channel and prevent flow of oil through the drain channel when the inner piston is in the first position, wherein the drain valve does not seal against the drain channel when the piston is in the second position.

    • A spin-on oil filter can be mounted in an easily accessible position on an engine by means of an oil filter housing comprising a lower housing unit (4) , which comprises an open-topped chamber, and an upper housing unit (6) . A male threaded portion, adapted to mount a spin-on oil filter, extends up from the bottom surface of the lower housing unit. A flat gasket sealing surface is located on the bottom surface, wherein the gasket surface is perpendicular with the male threaded portion. The housing ocmprises three passages: (i) a first passage adapted to permit flow of dirty oil to an oil filter mounted on the male threaded portion,- (ii) a second passage adapted to permit flow of filtered oil away from an oil filter mounted on the male threaded portion; and, (iii) a third passage adapted to permit drainage of oil from the open-topped chamber. The upper housing unit (6) is removably attached to the lower housing unit (4) , and is adapted to cover the opened- topped chamber. Methods of maintaining the filter and of adding refill oil are facilitated by this housing.
