    • The cassette consists of an adaptor (1), which is permanently inserted in a typewriter, and a reloading unit (20). In a housing (13), the adaptor (1) has a ribbon drive consisting of a drive pin (55) and an arm (2) which can be swivelled about the latter, and on which a drive wheel (53) is mounted rotatably. Additionally, a ribbon tensioning device (12, 11, 15, 54) is accommodated in the adaptor (1). The housing (13) has two projecting limbs (13a) which bear centring pins (7) at their free ends. The reloading unit (20) has a support (21) with two projecting limbs (21a). Held in the support (20) are a winding-off reel (40) and a winding-on core (43). The ink ribbon (42) is guided from the reel (40) via ribbon guide elements (27, 28) to the winding-on core (43). The ribbon guide elements (27) at the free ends of the support limbs are centred on the pins (7). By this design, simple reloading, a high degree of operational reliability, low material expenditure for disposable parts and a low degree of environmental pollution in disposal are achieved.

    • 1,037,461. End protectors for paper rolls. F. BUTTNER. March 12, 1964 [March 12, 1963; Aug. 8, 1963], No. 10403/64. Heading B8C. Protector plates for the ends of a paper roll are of greater diameter than the roll and are held in place by a tensioned band or wire passing through the roll central aperture and anchored in bushes projecting from the plates into the aperture. In one embodiment, wooden end plates 3 with attached discs 4 and bushes 3a have clamp elements 8, 13 mounted in sleeves 6, 11, the latter being biased outwards by a spring 10 to tension the band 16. A trigger 13a permits release of the band for removal of the plates. In another embodiment, a band or wire passes over rods 27, 30, 31 in the bushes and its ends are joined at 33 by twisting, clamping etc. The band or wire is cut to release the plates. In a further version, a ratchet-controlled winch is provided in one bush to tension the band (Fig. 5, not shown). The roll may be supported during application or removal of the end plates by a stand, Fig. 6, comprising a ramp 48 along which the roll, with end plates fitted, is rolled to fit in a cradle portion 49. The stand is then upended to rest on its side 46, the roll thereby being raised clear of the ground. After removal of the plates, the usual carrying bar is threaded through the roll to hoist it clear. In fitting the plates, the roll is placed in the portion 49, the plates fitted, the stand is rotated to rest on its side 45 again and the roll moved down the ramp.
