    • A plastics material covered metal electrode maintains an electrostatic field dissipating the particles of fine dry powdered dielectric material such as flour or starch to create a cloud or dry mist of the powder in the path of freshly inked sheets as they are discharged from a printing press to prevent smudging of the ink and sticking together of the successive sheets as they are stacked. The electrostatic field is formed across the path of the powder as it is discharged from a supply trough by energizing the electrode with a high voltage current. The plastic covered electrode replaces heretofore required neon gas filled glass tubes which are fragile and burn out. The preferred plastic covering for the electrode is a thermoplastic polyetherimide resin marketed under the name of "Ultem" by General Electric Company of Pittsfield, Mass.

A pulse unit may also be included in the apparatus to impart the desired manipulatory action to at least the areola portion of the breast engaged by the breast pump. Air pressure and wall thickness and contour of the pulse unit are used in the pulse unit to provide the desired manipulatory action. The apparatus also includes interchangeable reservoir means for collecting the colostrum and/or milk therein for subsequent oral feeding and/or gavage feeding. A syringe barrel is configurated as the reservoir means for the gavage feeding portion of the apparatus.

The platinum group, tin, sulfided cobalt, rhenium and halogen components are present in the multimetallic catalyst in amounts respectively, calculated on an elemental basis, corresponding to about 0.01 to about 2 wt. % platinum group metal, about 0.01 to about 5 wt. % tin, about 0.01 to about 5 wt. % cobalt, about 0.01 to about 2 wt. % rhenium, and about 0.1 to about 3.5 wt. % halogen. These metallic components are, moreover, relatively uniformly dispersed throughout the porous carrier material in carefully controlled oxidation states such that substantially all of the platinum group component is present therein in the elemental metallic state, substantially all of the catalytically available cobalt component is present in a sulfided state, substantially all of the rhenium component is present in the sulfided state or in the elemental metallic state or in a mixture of these states, while substantially all of the tin component is present therein in the form of tin oxide.

    • A milking apparatus and method for improved lactation, the apparatus including means for applying suction to at least the nipple portion of a mammary gland while simultaneously and/or selectively imparting a constrictive, manipulatory force to the nipple and/or the mammary gland adjacent the nipple. An inflatable toroidal member is adapted to be placed in encirclement of the nipple portion of the mammary gland. The manipulatory force is supplied by selectively inflating the inflatable toroidal member. Inflation of the toroid causes an inner wall surface to be distended inwardly thereby imparting a constrictive force to the nipple and/or adjacent, underlying mammary gland. The toroidal member may also be provided with an inner wall thickness which is selectively predetermined so as to be preferentially distended during inflation of the toroidal member. Additionally, compartmentalization of the toroidal member provides a certain degree of mimicry of the normal suckling action of an infant for improved lactation. A peristaltic pumping action is also selectively imparted to the mammary gland and/or nipple by selectively predetermining the inner wall thicknesses along the toroidal surface placed in juxtaposition with the mammary gland.
