    • A long-lasting persistent, uniform film-forming skin protecting germicidal composition provides a long-lasting persistent barrier film when applied to skin. The compositions have particular utility as barrier teat dips for protecting cows against mastitis. A barrier film-forming agent is selected from the modified or hydrolyzed polysaccharides, particularly a hydrolyzed or modified starch, such as dextrin and maltodextrin. The barrier film-forming agent is stably solubilized in a solvent that dries to form the long-lasting persistent uniform film over the animal skin. The compositions also contain antimicrobial agents that fight against microbes that manage to penetrate the protective barrier film. Particularly, advantageous is that all the materials used are safe food additive and cost effective over the traditional barrier film forming agents.

    • The present invention relates to an aqueous liquid automatic dishwashing detergent composition which have improved hypochlorite bleach stability. The detergent composition comprises hypochlorite bleach, a bleach stabilizer, inorganic builder salts, bleach-stable detergent and a thickener. Additionally, the composition provides improved bleach storage stability and its improved hypochlorite bleach functionality. The stabilizer can be a water soluble iodate in an amount sufficient to provide a mole ratio of iodate to available chlorine of 0.08 to 1.67. Alternatively, the stabilizer can be a water soluble iodide/iodine mixture in an iodide to iodine mole ratio of 2:1 to 1:2 present in an amount sufficient to provide a mole ratio of iodide to available chlorine of 0.008 to 0.167.

    • A process for the manufacture of water soluble higher fatty acid monoglyceride monosulfate detergents is described which includes reacting a sulfating agent, such as chlorosulfuric acid, with glycerol in an aprotic organic solvent medium, such as chloroform, to trisulfate the glycerol, reacting the glycerol trisulfuric acid made with a higher fatty acid or a higher fatty acid methyl ester in such a solvent, extracting the reaction mixture with a solvent for the monoglyceride disulfuric acid, such as aqueous lower alkanol, and neutralizing the extracted monoglyceride disulfuric acid with an aqueous neutralizing agent to make the water soluble detergent salt. In a modification of the process the extraction and neutralization operations are effected simultaneously, preferably with a slurry of sodium bicarbonate, as neutralizing agent, in aqueous lower alkanol. In another variation of the process a starting material is glycerol trisulfuric acid, which may be made by processes different from the described glycerol sulfation in aprotic solvent.The products resulting are of improved quality and of higher detergent content than obtained by prior art processes and the processes are more efficient, requiring only stoichiometric amounts of reagents, reducing formation of sodium sulfate, and improving the yields of detergents.
