    • A safety device for a motor vehicle comprising an inflatable curtain (1) having an upper edge (2) and a lower edge (4). The upper edge (2) is to be mounted within the interior of a motor vehicle. A first portion (5) of an elongate, flexible element such as a cord extends from a mounting point (3) on the lower edge (4) over a pulley (8) to a sliding ring (1x0). A second portion of the cord extends from the mounting point (3) through a guide (12) round a lower pulley (11) through the ring (10) to a lower anchoring point (7). As the inflatable element inflates so the mounting point (3) on the lower edge moves downwardly, and a triangle of tension is created between the upper pulley (8), the lower pulley (11) and the mounting point.

    • An air-bag arrangement is disclosed, which preferably takes the form of an inflatable curtain. The arrangement comprises a single inflatable element (2) and a gas generator (10), which is configured to inflate the inflatable element (2). The inflatable element (2) defines at least two inflatable chambers (5, 6). A gas-supply duct (11) is provided which has an end outlet aperture (19) formed through an end wall 18 of the gas-supply duct (11) so as to have a diameter smaller than the bore of the gas-supply duct (11). The gas-supply duct (11) also has at least one side outlet aperture (20) formed through the sidewall of the gas-supply duct (11) at a position generally adjacent the end outlet aperture (19). The side outlet aperture (20) is configured to direct gas out of the gas-supply duct (11) in a direction substantially orthogonal to the direction of gas-supply duct (11) in a direction substantially orthogonal to the direction of gas directed to the end outlet aperture (19). The gas-supply duct (11) is arranged so that gas exiting through the end outlet aperture (19) is directed to one of said chambers (5), whilst gas exiting through the side outlet aperture (20) is directed to the other chamber (6).
