    • A diaphragm-type control valve having a diaphragm and a valve body is provided preferably for use in the separation of and fluid control between a fluid source and a pressurized gas volume. The diaphragm element and a port in the body together form an intermediate chamber that eliminates the need for a check- valve downstream of the valve. In one preferred embodiment, an inner surface of the valve body defines a chamber having an inlet and an outlet in communication with the chamber, and an elongated seat member defining a groove in communication with the port. A diaphragm member having upper and lower surfaces is disposed within the chamber. The lower surface preferably includes a pair of spaced apart elongated members defining a channel therebetween. The diaphragm member engages the seat member placing the channel in communication with the groove to define an air seat in communication with the port.

    • A polarization independent switch, using polarization diversity for converting the input beams to a single defined polarization direction, followed by wavelength dispersion to spread the individual wavelength channels over a pixilated switching device. This may be a polarization rotation element whose setting can be controlled by means of an applied electronic signal. This may either leave the polarization direction unchanged, or it may rotate it such that it is essentially orthogonal to the polarization of the input beam exiting the polarization diversity components. The beam then proceeds to a birefractive wedge element which refracts light having the two orthogonal polarizations to different extents, thus separating the beams according to the control signal applied to the polarization rotation element through which each wavelength component of the beam passed. The beams may thus be directed to different ports according to the control signal setting. 2 x 1 switch configurations are shown.

    • The proposed invention pertains to mining and quarrying, in particular to tools used for extracting useful minerals, specifically high-pressure subsurface pneumatic hammers. The proposed subsurface pneumatic hammer comprises a housing (1); a graduated hollow piston-hammer mounted in the housing so as to be capable of reciprocal motion, the large-diameter stage (2) of the piston-hammer being mounted in the housing with a gap, a labyrinth seal (3) being provided on the external surface; a compound transition piece (4) in which the smaller-diameter stage (5) of the piston-hammer is directly fitted; a transition sleeve (6) and a gas-distributing pipe (7) mounted within it. The outer surface of the small diameter part of the transition element (4) has longitudinal grooves (8), radial apertures (9) and an additional annular bore (10). In the large diameter stage (2) of the piston-hammer are provided gas-distributing radial apertures (11, 12). The piston-hammer is mounted in the housing (1) to form useful-stroke and blank-stroke chambers (13 and 14 respectively). The gas-distributing pipe has radial apertures (15) along the edges of which are provided annular bores (16, 17) which ensure more prompt opening and closure of the chambers (13, 14). The proposed pneumatic hammer provides increased power (without altering the energy of the blow), improved reliability, and lengthened useful life while simplifying manufacture and reducing the associated costs. This is done by taking the power load from the large-diameter piston-hammer and thereby reducing wear.

The larger-diameter section of the reducer is connected to the larger-diameter stage of the shaft and has apertures and blind longitudinal grooves on the inner surface, cylindrical rollers being fitted in the apertures and longitudinal grooves. The proposed device reduces wear and destruction of the reducer and drill bit by reducing mechanical loads when the pneumatic hammer is in operation.
