    • A computer acting as display device can present pixmap screen page image(s), and with end-user input, can act on associated interaction(s) area(s) specification(s); with the screen page image(s) and associated interaction(s) area(s) specification(s) created automatically from electronic document processing on another computer; such other computer paginating the documents for information viewing area(s) on such display device(s), record interaction(s) area(s) data corresponding with styled hypertext or interactive graphical elements within the electronic document, rasterising these document page(s) into screen page image pixmap(s), and compile interaction(s) area(s) data into persistent interaction(s) area(s) specification(s), together for communication to the display device. References to content elements in document pages can be associated with screen page images to allow end- users find information. Content elements in documents may act as placeholders in pagination to reserve space for overlaying media upon screen page images. Screen page images may consist of many pixmap files to prevent end-user saving.

[Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] Riveting.-Contacts are riveted into relay springs or non-magnetic armature back stop pins are riveted in, the parts being of the general type described in Specification 358,070, [Group XXXVII]. Wires 10, 11 are clamped between dies 12 closed by a stop in a slide A operated by a bellcrank 13 and handle. A lost motion device 14 then actuates a slide B also having a stop to lift the dies by the amount required for feed of the wires. Relay spring 16 is then located by pins 18 with the wires protruding through holes in it. A lever operated pawl then effects the riveting there being preferably a slight space between the part 16 and the dies 12 beneath heads to be formed on the under side also. On return stroke a cam 21 carried by slide A pushes relay pawl laterally to shear the riveted-in parts from the rest of the wires. A modified arrangement employing racks and pinions is referred to.

[Class 103 (i)] [Also in Group VIII] Friction elements for brakes, clutches, &c. in the form of discs, rings, or cones, comprise a single-ply or laminated woven fabric member having non-metallic reinforcements incorporated thereinto at circumferentially spaced positions so as to strengthen the member against centrifugal or other stresses without impairing its flexibility. The reinforcements, which may be applied at or near the fixing points, comprise parts of the fabric itself impregnated with a substance such as a hardeenable synthetic resin which is subseqeuntly treated, e.g. with heat, to harden it, and/or additional parts of hard or hardenable material such as fabric impregnated with synthetic resin applied to and pressed into the fabric. Non-reinforced parts of the fabric may be impregnated with a friction-modifying substance such as rubber or chinawood oil. The element may comprise fabric woven from asbestos, cotton, hemp, or jute with or without metallic wires, and may be made by joining the ends of a strip woven so that it has a curvature corresponding to the finished ring.

    • 681,166. Drill trollies. HARDYPICK, Ltd., and HURD, E. W. Oct. 5, 1950 [July 5, 1949], No. 17761/49. Class 124. A coal or rock working machine has a jib carrying a drill unit and is turnable about a vertical axis, movable in a vertical plane, movable about its own axis and the drill unit is pivotable about an axis normal to the axis of the jib. As shown, a track laying vehicle driven by two motors 21 has a quadrant 14, horizontally disposed, and a turntable 16 mounted above it for rotation on rollers 15 by a handwheel 17 and pinion 20. A jib cradle 25, mounted on brackets 24 on the turntable, carries a hollow jib shaft on which is mounted a double boom, jib 41 having journals 42 in which is pivoted a self-contained drill unit 44. The angular position of the drill unit is controlled by a rod 47 connected through a spring buffer. to a movable internally screwed rod which latter co-operates with an externally screwed rod rotated by a handwheel 51. The hollow jib shaft mounted in the jib cradle is rotatable about its own axis by a hanlwheel 40 operating a worm gear. The jib cradle is pivoted in a vertical plane about trunnions 26 by a hydraulic jack 28, the cylinder of which is pivotally connected to the turntable at 29 and the piston rod 30 to a bracket 32 fixed to the cradle. If the axis of the drill bit 53 passes through the axis of the journals 42 and is arranged near a boundary of the drill unit, the thrust from the drilling is taken by the journal and the tool operates with the minimum headroom. The Provisional Specification also includes the use of a .single motor for driving the track-laying vehicle.
