    • An electroacoustic transducer which includes at least one stator member with an operating surface positioned adjacent to an emitter diaphragm. The stator member is comprised of at least one stiff sheet of paper having perforations for acoustic transparency. The stator also includes a means to develop electrical conductivity and to receive an applied voltage. An emitter diaphragm is suspended adjacent to and spaced a sufficient distance from the operating surface of the stator member to enable diaphragm oscillation in response to an applied signal voltage. This arrangement permits diaphragm movement within at least one emitter section without creating restrictive contact on the operating surface of the stator member. The diaphragm may be composed of paper with electrical conductivity sufficient to receive an acoustic signal voltage from a voltage source and to vibrate as an acoustic emitter with respect to forces applied at the stator member. Alternatively, the stator member may be of conventional construction, and combined with an emitter diaphragm constructed of a paper composition. Electrical contacts are also positioned on the stator member and the emitter diaphragm for coupling to appropriate voltage sources.

    • A speaker device has a first plate and a second plate disposed behind the first plate. A speaker membrane is disposed between the plates electrically coupled to a driver which supplies an electric signal causing the membrane to vibrate and create sound waves. The first and second plate have a first and second pattern, respectively, of regularly spaced and similarly sized openings. The openings of the first and second patterns may be similarly sized and spaced or the openings of the first pattern may be larger and spaced further apart than the openings of the second pattern. A support structure joins the first and second plates together in a fixed, spaced relationship and at a relative positional orientation, or at a relative rotational orientation. The orientation of the plates develops a repeating pattern of recurring geometric images.

    • An ultrasonic emitter device for converting electrical signals to audio output by acoustic heterodyning of ultrasonic emissions. The device comprises a rigid core member having a top surface which includes an array of cavities of predetermined size and means for enhancement of at least one resonant frequency operable as a carrier frequency within an ultrasonic frequency range. An electrostatic field is generated at the top surface of the core member, and operates with respect to a resilient, dielectric diaphragm disposed in tension along the top surface and across the cavities to allow an intended range of orthogonal displacement of emitting sectors of the diaphragm positioned over the cavities and within a strong portion of the electrostatic field. A conductive medium is applied to one face of the diaphragm and is electrically isolated from the core member. A modulating circuit coupled to the conductive medium develops a variable electrostatic field to be applied to the diaphragm which interacts with the electrostatic field of the core member to develop a series of ultrasonic compression waves emanating from the emitting sectors of the diaphragm within the desired ultrasonic resonant frequency range and which propagate the series of ultrasonic compression waves which are demoduled within a nonlinear air medium to generate audio output.

    • A toy device for simulating a weapon which comprises a toy body having a configuration which supplies a directional orientation for aiming the toy body at a target and a parametric speaker. The parametric speaker generates at least one new sonic frequency from at least two ultrasonic frequencies of different value, and projects them directionally toward the targeted area. The speaker comprises i) an ultrasonic frequency generator; ii) a sonic frequency generator; iii) modulating means coupled to the ultrasonic frequency generator and the sonic frequency generator for producing the at least two ultrasonic frequencies of different value; and iv) at least one ultrasonic frequency emitter coupled to the modulating means and aligned for transmission with the directional orientation of the toy body for propagating the at least two ultrasonic frequencies and concurrently generating the new sonic frequency with directional sound transmission orientation toward the target. A firing mechanism is coupled to the toy body for activating the parametric speaker to generate the new sonic frequency. A light source may also be attached to the toy weapon for providing visual targeting where the parametric speaker and light source are in common target alignment.

    • An ear-mounted microphone device configured for being supported in the ear. The microphone device includes a microphone element contained within a housing which is configured at one end to be mounted at a user's ear canal. When the housing is so mounted, the microphone element is positioned closely adjacent to the user's head such that the housing and the user's head cooperatively alter the sensitivity of the microphone so as to provide an enhanced directional orientation and sensitivity of the microphone element toward the user's mouth to a greater degree than is provided when the housing and microphone element are not mounted at the ear canal, so as to enhance pickup of the user's voice. A speaker element may be included within the ear device and can be decoupled mechanically by a gasket bridge between the housing and microphone so as to avoid feedback. This system can operate with full duplex and enable hands free communication and direct voice command by user through computer modems, telephone networks and other communication systems.

    • A multi-speed tape cassette system includes a tape cassette having a removable tab centrally located over a cavity disposed on the leading edge thereof, and a tape player operable to reproduce information contained on the tape cassette at one speed if the cassette tab is in place, and at another speed if the cassette tab is removed. The tape player includes a receptacle for receiving and holding the cassette, a two-position control switch normally biased to a second position, and operable to a first position when the tape cassette including the tab is placed in the receptacle. The control switch remains in the second position when the cassette with the tab removed is placed in the receptacle. The tape player also includes apparatus responsive to the control switch being in the first position for operating the tape cassette at the normal speed, and responsive to the control switch being in the second position for operating the tape cassette at a lower speed. The control switch includes a plunger element positioned at one side of the receptacle to protrude into the cassette cavity wnen the tab is removed and the cassette is placed in the receptacle. When the cassette tab is not removed, the tab forces the plunger into the receptacle wall as the cassette is being placed in the receptacle.
