    • A method for removing hydrogen sulfide from liquid sulfur, comprising introducing liquid sulfur containing hydrogen sulfide in an upstream portion of a conduit (3). The conduit (3) has a fluid outlet in a downstream portion thereof located within a lower portion of a first vessel (1). The method further includes causing the liquid sulfur (3a) to flow through the conduit outlet into the first vessel (1), up an annulus (6) formed between the conduit (3) and the first vessel (1) and overflow through an outlet (4) positioned at an upper portion of the first vessel into a second vessel (15) which is connected to a liquid sulfur pit operating at atmospheric pressure. Air (38) is introduced into the liquid sulfur located in the annulus at a point between the conduit outlet and said first vessel outlet (4). The flows concurrently to the direction of flow of the liquid sulfur in the annulus (6) and out of the first vessel outlet (4) into the second vessel (15) thereby removing hydrogen sulfide from the liquid sulfur in the annulus (6).
