Air and steam pressure sprayers.-In an atomizer for liquids, more particularly for spraying oil fuel, the material to be sprayed is projected by the atomizing medium (steam or air) into a chamber where it is subjected to a further atomizing jet which imparts a whirling motion to the material. Fig. 1 shows a form in which a body 1 is supplied with liquid through a port 7 and air or steam through a port 6. Some of the air passes through a port 12 to an ejector nozzle preferably of Venturi form and provided with a needle valve 37 and from thence to the chamber 9, where the liquid is atomized and ejected into the axial chamber 22 which leads to a flaring outlet. A further quantity of atomizing medium passes along a port 4 to an annular chamber 21 formed between the body 1 and nozzle member 19 and thence through tangential ports 26 to a passage 23 where the liquid is subjected to a further atomizing and whirling motion. The flaring out. let of the nozzle may be covered with a perforated plate 30. In the form shown in Fig. 6, the spraying head is connected to a tube 38 the other end of which is connected to the liquid supply while the other 43 contains a stuffing-box through which passes a tube 48 for the atomizing fluid. The tube 48 carries at its outer end a nozzle 47, preferably of Venturi form, ending in a coned part 47a. Screwed into the spray-head is a nozzle piece 52, the inner end being coned at 54 parallel to the cone 47a and provided with tangential ducts 62. A further supply of atomizing fluid is supplied through the pipe 59 to the annular chamber 56 and thence by the ducts 62 to the nozzle.
