    • 136,035. Edwards, T. J., (trading as T.J.E. Games Co.). Feb. 14, 1919. Table games.-Relates to appliances for playing games such as table billiards, bagatelle, and cricket where a ball, disk, or similar piece is driven by the appliances. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the striking-appliance has a straight handle portion a to which is hinged in alinement therewith a striking portion d controlled by a blade spring b. The striking portion is drawn back against the resistance of the spring, and is then released to drive the ball. As shown in Fig. 3, the striking portion is curved to take around the ball and may be provided with a striking tip or knob f. This form of appliance may be used for bowling in table cricket, the bat being of the form shown in Fig. 6, wherein an arch d' provides a passages through which the ball may pass to strike the wicket. The appliance may take the form shown in Fig. 7, or may be of the formation shown in Fig. 8, the spring being operative in the position shown by dotted lines.

    • 129,525. Edwards, T. J., (trading as T. J. E. Games Co.). Oct. 1, 1918. Card games.-A pack of 49 playing cards bearing representations of foodstuffs, fuel. and so forth, controlled under a rationing scheme, consists of 12 suits of four cards each, and a master card designated " Kybosh." Each card is printed at the top with an indicator name which is also printed small and sidewise at the top left-hand, and at the bottom right-hand corners. Some of the suits may be omitted from the pack or additional suits may be introduced The game is to secure tricks by oneself or by bluffing others into making tricks. Thus the caller may challenge another player for a card who, although possessing the card, may deny possession. The caller may then, if he thinks proper, call the Bluff by which the cards of the suit are placed on the table. The master card carries with it certain privileges, and when played is pooled with a card from each of the other plavers. The pool is shuffled and dealt out according to defined rules.

    • 102,895. Edwards, T. J. July 26, 1916. Board games.-Apparatus for playing a war game comprises a board marked with representations of physical and political features, removable pieces representing bridges and forts, removable screens, army pieces the value and mobility of which can be varied, and means for masking the strength of such pieces. The board a, Fig. 2, is divided into squares and is marked to represent a map of belligerent countries, boundaries, railways, bases, &c. being shown. A removable screen z is provided which extends along the frontier and hides the disposition of the pieces at the commencement of the game. Other screens 1 also are provided which surround the capitals and enable pieces to be hidden. The army pieces with which the game is played each consists of a transport piece r, Fig. 6, fighting-units such as disks or rings s, and a screen or mask t. Train pieces u, Fig. 7, into which one or more units or an army piece may be placed for transport are also provided, as well as bridges or pontoon pieces, Fig. 8, " railwaycut " pieces, forts, and fort masks. The forts and bridge-pieces are provided with pegs which fit into holes in the board.

    • An assessment of the quality criteria of a lens is assessed in an apparatus (2) that simultaneously makes use of upper (4) and lower (6) autocollimators and edge and cap measurement probes. Beams of light are reflected or transmitted through the lens (8) and focused on an image detector that permits a processor to calculate an optical axis error and centre based on a concentric error orbit projected by the beams, with this orbit appearing when the lens is rotated. By operating to mathematically zero the optical axis and in taking N measurement samples around N points around the circumference of the lens, the processor is able to calculate quickly (by inference) the run-out (TIR) error value for the edge and, optionally, cap features of the lens in relation to the actual optical axis of the lens.

    • Interactive blocks (12, 212) that present changeable individual characterizations (118) and sensory output based on meaningful assemblage of sensed individual characterizations from similar juxtaposed blocks (12, 212) are configured to record their interactions to produce an historic log or both successful interactions that yield a sensory output or failed interactions that produce no logical or meaningful sensory event. Uploading of the historical log (158) permits automated computational assessment of all interactions, with a centralized computing resource dynamically arranged to cause selective download of new content and/or new operating instructions to one or more of the interactive blocks (12, 212) based of identification of trends in the historical record. The new content and operating instructions modifies operation of cooperating blocks to produce different, processor controlled individual characterizations an/or sensory outputs that reinforce learning or identified mistakes arising from inappropriate manipulation of the interactive blocks. The interactive blocks (12, 212) can be realized as physical entities or otherwise in a virtual screen environment, with the sensory output being visual, audible and/or a haptic response.
