摘要： An orthotic insert having an angled lateral surface that engages the insole so as to pivot the insert in a lateral direction and invert the rearfoot at heel strike, and a medial bottom surface that freely interfits within the heel counter and insole of the shoe so as to avoid limiting pivoting motion in the medial direction as the weight on the foot shifts forwardly and medially. Pivoting motion in the medial direction is arrested by engagement between a distal medial portion of the rigid plate member and the insole along the transverse plane of the shoe. The distal medial portion of the plate member is located generally proximal and beneath the first metatarsal head of the foot. The upwardly angled medial surface of the post permits the post to fit optimally within the heel area of the shoe and also avoids interference between the heel counter/insole and the post that would impair proper operation of the insert.

摘要： An orthotic insert adapted to be placed within a shoe having an insole. The orthotic insert has a relatively rigid, resilient base member having a heel portion and an arch portion. The upper surface of the base member is contoured to fit the plantar surface of a person's foot, so as to position the foot in a generally desired angular orientation. At least one curvilinear ridge is formed on the lower surface of the base member, and extends continuously around the rearward end of the heel portion and along the arch portion on both sides of the longitudinal axis of the orthotic insert. The ridge has a sharp lower edge which projects downwardly from the lower surface of the base member for supporting the heel seat in the heel section above the insole when the orthotic insert is placed within the shoe. The lower edge of the ridge is adapted to have material incrementally removed therefrom so that the angular orientation of the foot can be adjusted to suit an individual person. The sharp lower edge of the ridge penetrates into the upper surface of the insole to maintain the insert in position, when the person's weight is applied to the upper surface of the orthotic insert.

摘要： A relatively rigid cap is made of a material which is deformable at moderately elevated temperatures. A flexible blank contoured to fit a person's foot is placed against the cap which is at the elevated temperature, and these two are placed against the plantar surface of the foot. A plastic bag is placed around the cap, the blank and the foot, and a blank is applied to conform the cap and the blank to the person's foot so as to make a custom fit orthotic. Upon cooling, the cap remains properly contoured relative to the plantar surface of the foot.

摘要： An orthotic appliance and a method of making same in which the appliance is for use between a foot and a shoe, boot or the like and includes an insert which is to be placed between the foot and the boot, the insert is to be custom formed to correspond to the contour of an individual's foot. The insert is initially heated until its volume expands, thereafter the insert is placed on a platform and the two are adjoined to the foot. A vacuum bag is slid thereover, a vacuum is formed within the bag, and thereafter the insert takes the configuration of the bottom face of the foot. Additionally, foot pressure may be applied to augment the degree of conformation of the insert to the foot, and in other embodiments an additional heel insert is placed below the major insert, and a crest piece is placed between the ball and toe area of the insert on the underside thereof so that this additional material can be bonded to the major insert and also conform to the user's foot.
