    • Systems and methods for controlling transmission of signals are described. A camera-side modem is configured to receive two signals from a video camera and to extract a received passband signal from a transmission line. A detector in the camera-side modem generates an alarm signal when disruption or loss of the received passband signal is identified. An enable signal is used to control transmission of at least one of the baseband video signal and the passband video signal. The passband signal may be identified by an estimate of mean square error in a quadrature amplitude demodulator, a measurement of reliability provided by a constellation detector, a measurement of reliability based on a sequence of frame synchronizations and/or an estimate of mean square error in an equalizer. The detector may monitor a gain factor in an automatic gain control module of the camera-side modern and/or a magnitude of the received passband signal.

    • A low noise H-bridge driver for EL lamps is described herein. The H-bridge controls switching transistors to create an AC voltage across the EL lamp. To reduce audible noise of the EL lamp when driven by an H-bridge, the current through the switching transistors is limited while the voltage across the EL lamp is rising and falling. This reduces the ramp rate of the voltage across the EL lamp and, as a result, reduces vibrations to an inaudible level. The rise time and fall time may each constitute 5%-50% of a half waveform. The rise and fall portions are substantially linear and symmetrical for the half waveform. Current may be limited by using two or more MOSFETs in the H-bridge that have relatively small gate widths. Current mirrors connected to fixed low current sources may also be connected to two or more switching transistors in the H-bridge, or current mirrors may be connected to the common nodes of the H-bridge, so that the transistors conduct a current proportional to the fixed low current when turned on.

    • A method for rotationally coupling a first member (12) and a second member (14). In a first step, a first member (12) and a second member (14) are provided with one of the first member (12) and the second member (14) including a portion having cutting edge(s) extending therealong. The second member (14) defines an orifice (14a) for receiving therein at least a portion (12a) of the first member (12). The orifice (14a) is configured relative to the first member (12) such that, as the portion (12a) of the first member (12) is inserted into in the orifice (14a), the cutting edges on one of the first member (12) and the second member (14) engage a surface on the other one of the first member (12) and the second member (14) in a single-pass broaching operation to shave a layer of material from the surface such that the surface acquires a shape substantially conforming to a shape of the cutting edges, thereby providing tight-fitting abutting contact between the surface and the portion incorporating the cutting edges. The portion of the first member (12) is then inserted into the orifice (14a) to perform the broaching operation to generate the abutting contact between the surface and the portion incorporating the cutting edges.
