摘要： A method of and apparatus for dynamically mechanically bonding together a plurality of laminae, at least one of which comprises thermoplastic material: for example, polyethylene. In one aspect of the invention the laminae are forwarded in face to face relation through a pressure biased nip between a patterned nip defining member and an opposing nip defining member (eg, a relief patterned cylinder and an anvil cylinder) which members are independently driven to maintain a predetermined surface velocity differential between them. In another aspect of the invention which is particularly useful at intermediate and higher line velocities --preferably for line velocities of about 300 feet or more per minute and, more preferably, for line speeds of about 450 feet or more per minute -- the nip defining members say be operated with equal surface velocities. In each of these aspects of the invention, the members may be biased towards each other to provide a predetermined pattern-element-psi loading; and, additionally, they may be independently heated to provide each with an elevated surface temperature which is, preferably, in a predetermined range below the melt temperature of the thermoplastic lamina disposed closest to or in contact with each respective nip defining member as the laminae are forwarded through the nip.

摘要： A disposable absorbent garment having an elastic waist panel that includes one or more localized retention zones for retention the garment in its initial, as-applied position on the body of a wearer. The retention zones includes materials that have a higher coefficient of static friction than does the major surface area that constitutes the inner, body-facing surface of the garment. The garment can also include localized areas having a lower coefficient of static friction than that of the major inner surface area of the garment to facilitate placement of the garment in a desired wearing position. Such lower coefficient of static friction areas can include the areas adjacent the leg openings and the area of the waistband that overlies the stomach of the wearer. Additionally, the garment can also include within the waistband, as well as within the side, hip engaging panels of the garment, areas wherein the coefficient of static friction varies from high to low to provide improved retention and comfort over a wide range of wearing conditions and a wide range of movements of the wearer.

摘要： Absorbent articles such as disposable diapers, incontinent briefs, diaper holders, training pants, feminine hygiene garments and the like, that have a unique waist feature that improves the dynamic fit as well as the containment characteristics of the absorbent article. Such absorbent articles comprise a chassis assembly preferably comprising a liquid pervious topsheet, a liquid impervious backsheet, and an absorbent core positioned between the topsheet and the backsheet; an extensible back waist feature; and a closure system for maintaining the absorbent article on the wearer. The extensible back waist feature provides an extensible feature that provides a more comfortable and contouring fit by initially conformably fitting the diaper to the wearer and by sustaining this fit. The extensible back waist feature has a hip panel, a central waistband panel, and a pair of side panels. The force/extension characteristics of each panel is designed to provide such improved fit and containment. While each panel of the extensible waist feature may be constructed from a number of extensible materials, the panels preferably comprise a structural elastic-like film web. The structural elastic-like film (SELF) web exhibits an elastic-like behavior in the direction of elongation without the use of added elastic materials. The configuration of the SELF web in each panel has specific characteristics to provide the desired force/extension characteristics of each panel.
