    • The invention is a data transmission medium and a method of data transmission. A data transmission system in accordance with the invention includes a plurality of modems; a transmission medium coupled to each of the modems with data transmissions between the modems being transmitted by the transmission medium with a data transmission protocol; a plurality of processors which use a common processor data protocol, each processor being coupled to one of the modems; a plurality of devices, each device receiving and/or transmitting data transmissions with a device data protocol and being coupled to a processor; and a plurality of digital devices, coupled to the transmission medium, which perform at least one of transmitting digital data to the transmission medium for transmission by the transmission medium to another digital device and receiving digital data from another digital device transmitted by the transmission medium.

    • A kit for adding a reclining seat to a wheelchair, comprising a stationary seat frame for mounting to a base frame of the wheelchair, a seat for mounting to the stationary seat frame, the seat having a seat portion and a back portion pivotally mounted to said seat portion, and an actuator mounted on the seat for causing the back portion of said seat to change angle relative to said stationary seat frame, a sliding connector for slidably mounting said seat portion to said stationary seat frame, and means for sliding said seat on said stationary seat frame along said sliding connector without changing height as the actuator causes the angle of the back portion to change, wherein said kit, when mounted on a wheelchair, compensates for a change in an occupant's center of gravity by sliding said seat portion on said stationary seat frame as said back portion changes angle.

    • A cushion element for use in the wheelchair. The cushion element includes a generally rectangular body in plane having a front edge, a pair of opposed side edges and a rear edge. The cushion element is sized and shaped to be placed on a seat support of a wheelchair. The cushion element includes at least one collapsible support located toward the front edge of the element. The collapsible support is characterized by being more easily compressed towards the front edge and less easily compressed towards the rear edge. Thereby, under compression, the collapsible support forms a wedge shaped section in cross-section beneath a wheelchair occupant's legs. In this manner, the person is permitted to reach their foot down to the ground without the formation of a pressure point at the front edge of the seat cushion.
