摘要： A unitary polymer substrate having a plurality of microfibers projecting from a surface is provided. The presence of the microfibers greatly increases the surface area and can impart a cloth-like feel to the surface. The projecting microfibers may have a variety of forms, including frayed-end microfibers, tapered microfibers, microfibers having an expanded cross-sectional shape, and microfibers having a very high aspect ratio. A number of methods of producing unitary polymer structures with a plurality of projecting microfibers are also provided.

摘要： A pressure-sensitive adhesive tape or sheet is reliably repositionable by having a plurality of spaced clumps of particles uniformly distributed over at least one surface of the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer with the tips of the clumps of particles being substantially free from adhesive, which particles are smaller than the thickness of the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer. Preferred particles are glass beads which may be from 5 to 15 .mu.m in diameter when the thickness of the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer is about 25 .mu.m. Each clump preferably contains from 5 to about 100 particles. The pressure-sensitive adhesive layer can be covered with a carrier web which has a low adhesion surface that is formed with depressions that protect the clumps of particles.

The sheet may also include an adhesive layer that may cover the conductive members or at least a portion of the conductive members may extend above the adhesive layer. The conductive members may be supported and held on the substrate or may be suspended in the adhesive, out of contact with the substrate.

摘要： The invention provides abrasive articles with optimally oriented abrasive particles and a method of making the same. The method involves contacting a substrate with the contact and mating surfaces of tools to provide an embossed substrate with perforated depressions, distributing abrasive particles within the depressions of the substrate, optimally orienting each abrasive particle in the depression containing the abrasive particle, creating a differential pressure between the top surface and the back surface of the embossed, perforated sheet wherein a lower pressure is applied to the back surface to hold the oriented abrasive particles within its depression while removing at least a major portion of abrasive particles not within the depressions from the top surface of the sheet and permanently bonding the abrasive particles in the depressions after they are optimally oriented to provide the abrasive product.

摘要： The present invention provides a discontinuous metal/polymer composite, with a metal layer, formed from a plurality of fine metal strands, which may be used, for example, in static or EMI shielding. The metal layer comprises a plurality of fine metal strands provided on the substrate, the metal strands individually having a cross-section with an area of about 100 to 100,000 .mu.m.sup.2 and the cross-section of the individual metal strands having a flat portion and an arcuate portion. The metal and polymer may be selected so that the composite is capable of being thermoformed without loss of electrical conductivity or transparency.
