Trouser and other garment stretchers. - In trouser &c. stretchers of the kind consisting of two grips provided with cords for attaching to the top and bottom of a door, each grip comprising a pair of battens between which the ends of the trousers &c. are gripped, the battens 1, 2 are pivotally connected by a stamping 4 and the other ends are held together by a channeled member 8 the pivot 7 of which is nearer the stamping 5 than the end 2 of the batten 2 so that the pressure of the garment tends to hold the battens together. To enhance this effect, the cords 6 are attached to eyes 5, 9 which are offset. Tension is applied to the garment by an adjustable cord passing through a wire clip on .one of the cords 6.

Vibration-dampers. - Relative vertical movements between the frame and axle of a vehicle are checked by a vertical flexible member which moves between gripping members adapted to exert a bending action on the flexible member. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, a flexible member 9 having a reinforced end pivoted to the frame 10 is slidable through a box-like part 1 pivoted at 2 to the axle 6. The part 1 contains convex and concave gripping pads 13, 14 pressed together by a screw 15, as shown in Fig. 3. In a modification, the blade is tapered so that the resistance increases as the displacement of the spring increases. In a further modification, two springs held a short distance apart at one end slide between convex and concave gripping members, the resistance to bending being greater the greater the distance of the gripping members from the fixed ends. In the construction shown in Fig. 7. two flexible elements 9 form a resilient wedge sliding between rigid shoes 22.

摘要： The invention relates to a method and apparatus for flood prevention, particularly floods caused by back flow of water through a water closet. The invention provides for provision of a sealant (1) which is flowable and expansible in wet or humid conditions, ie in water (2 ) in a wc bowl (3), the sealant being delivered to an outlet passageway (4) where the sealant (1) expands for obturating fluid flow, in this case water, back through the passageway (4) into and through the wc bowl to form a flood. The sealant (1) comprises a mixture of a clay-like sodium bentonite and sand. The sealant (1) is in a flexible container such as a nylon bag (5) which has through passageways to provide for contact of the bentonite with water in the wc bowl. Sodium bentonite swells to many times its dry size, for example 15-18 times its dry size on contact with water, forming a strong water-proof seal. The bag (5) is housed in a bag of dissolvable material such as polyvinyl alcohol (=PVA).
