摘要： The present invention relates to a communication system having a central station and a plurality of outstations. The central station is configured to execute a compensation procedure for compensating for degradation of data from the outstations, the compensation procedure having a plurality of adjustable characteristics, which characteristics are governed by a parameter set. The central station stores a respective parameter set in respect of each outstation; and, for each outstation, applies the compensation algorithm to data from that outstation using the parameter set associated with that outstation. In an initialization phase, the central station tests a plurality of starting parameter sets on data from a given outstation and selects the set providing the best compensation. The selected set is stored for subsequent compensation of data from that outstation.

摘要： An optical pulse source includes a gain-switched semiconductor laser diode (1). Light from a continuous wave source (3) is optically coupled into the laser cavity. Light output from the laser cavity passes through an electro-optic amplitude modulator (2). Synchronised modulating signals are applied to the semiconductor diode and to the amplitude modulator. The source outputs short low-jitter low-pedestal optical pulses and is suitable for use, for example, in a broadband optical network operating at high bit rates of 100Gbit/s or more, or in an optical interconnect.

摘要： The present invention relates to communication, in particular to communication involving analogue-like signals that are multiplexed together. There is provided a method of communicating with a plurality of devices, each of which of which provides a signal whose amplitude varies in an analogue fashion, the method including the steps of: temporally interleaving the signals from the devices so as to form a multiplexed signal having a plurality of sequential pulses, which pulses can, in an analogue fashion, each have an amplitude within a continuous range, each pulse originating from a respective device, and each pulse having a plurality of temporal portions; and, forming a synchronisation signal within the multiplexed signal for demultiplexing the multiplexed signal, the synchronisation signal being formed by reducing the amplitude within a temporal portion of at least some of the pulses.

A plurality of optical carriers are provided between the exchange and a cabinet, thereby allowing modulation of the signals, for example xDSL modulation to be carried out at the exchange, rather than at the cabinet. Whipple-trees. - The double-tree and singletrees of a horse-draught appliance are constructed with pairs of bars having reinforcing- members, the reinforcing-members of the doubletree acting as stops for the inner ends of the single-trees, and means are provided for enabling the double-tree to be attached to the pole or to different forms of tug connexions. The double-tree and single-trees are each constructed with two preferably metal bars 2 , 12 bowed apart at the centre as shown in Fig. 1. Pivoted between the bars of the double-tree is a clevis 4 having a hole 6 at one end and a swivelling hook 7 at the other to enable it to be attached to different forms of tug connexions. When it is required to attach the doubletree to a pole, the clevis is turned to lie between the bars 2 , and a pin is passed through holes 10 in the bars and through the clevis into the pole. The single-trees have eyes 14, which are connected to the double-tree by U-shaped pieces 13. The single-trees are reinforced by U-shaped plates 18 extending their whole length, and the double-tree by short pieces 19 which also act as stops for the single-trees.
