    • A liquid dispensing unit and method for sensing temperature of an electric valve. In one embodiment, the liquid dispensing unit includes a manifold which has a liquid passageway adapted to connect to a source of heated liquid. An electrically operated dispensing valve is coupled to the manifold. The dispensing valve includes an external surface and a liquid passageway which is in fluid communication with the liquid passageway of the manifold. The dispensing valve is selectively operative to dispense the heated liquid. The liquid dispensing unit further includes a temperature sensing device operatively associated with the dispensing valve. The temperature sensing device has a sensing element contacting the external surface of the dispensing valve to measure the temperature of that external surface and thereby indirectly measure the temperature of the heated liquid within the dispensing valve.

    • A heated air manifold of reduced physical dimensions for heating process air for use in dispensing heated liquids, such as hot melt adhesives. The heated air manifold includes at least one heating element and an air plenum having an air inlet and an air outlet. The dimensions of the air plenum are optimized for providing a compact heated air manifold for use in various adhesive dispensing systems, such as systems assembled from modular adhesive manifold segments, while retaining the ability to heat the process air in the air plenum to a desired application temperature. The heated air manifold may include a thick film flat heater disposed in the air plenum. The air plenum may have multiple individual segments winding throughout the volume of the heated air manifold.

    • A spring-loaded filter assembly for a liquid dispenser is disclosed that permits ready removal of a filter element from a filter housing. The filter assembly includes the filter housing having a liquid inlet, a liquid outlet, and a liquid passageway between the inlet and outlet. An opening is affixed to the filter housing and is removably closed by a closure element. A filter element is positioned for movement within the filter housing between a filtering position and an access position. According to the present invention, a biasing member is positioned in the filter housing. When the closure element is removed from the opening, the biasing member is configured for urging the filter element from the filtering position to the access position for removing the filter element from the filter housing.
